Description
heh, that rhymes. was originally only going to submit the little lego person by himself, but kept playing with it and got this. i took out my legos and my little ruler and made a perfect lego person model, to scale and everything. and it only took me a couple hours! i was really happy with myself, heh.made in: 3ds max 6, 1 skylight, 2 spotlights, 1 omni
modelling time: 2 hours
rendering time: about 4 minutes
polys: 18732 (plus the plane used for the ground)

wow, that's one big comment! hehe, well.. i must first say thank you very much. i'm glad you liked everything and thanks for the devwatch and fav too!
and no, i didn't get the idea from anything, i made this before the i-robot lego picture (which i've seen). i have a tutorial in my gallery on how to make legos if you're interested. i go over all the details of how to setup your scene with a camera, the lighting, and everything. it's for 3d studio max, though. i think if you ever try a better 3d modelling program, 3ds max is the way to go. i've loved it since the day i tried it. a few years ago, i tried modelling with rhino. i found it to be very hard to use, and yea.. i wouldn't even know where to begin with rendering in rhino.
and if you need me to render a model for ya, i'd be happy to. i'm not too sure on what filetypes rhino can export, though. and i'd need a file that 3ds max supports. send me a note, we'll talk some more

my msn is kirkdyer@hotmail.com (i don't usauly give this out because i hate having a heap of people i don't know) Thanks so much offering to render a model for me.
I know 3D-Max is great better then Rhino but that all I got at the moment, it really sucks at Rendering.
Didn't understand your comment on lighting i better go check out u're tutorial. Thanks again.

thank you! and well.. if and when i do get a print account, i'm going to resubmit a lot of things, better quality, etc. and i'll be sure to take into account improvements that people suggested. yea, i think it might make it a little better with a few scratches too. thanks!

I'll pull my legos out tomorrow and remake this and possibly take a pic. I don't have the right shades of green though. Only solid green. maybe I'll paint them, lol.

Wheee! So cool
But I wouldn't be my adorable little self if I didn't whine. So here goes: the dA thingy should have 8x2 and 6x2 blocks at it's base instead of a load of 2x2s.

This is so realistic. When I first read your comment I thought "Wow, this dude still has his legos and he still plays with 'em
" , then when I got to the bottom of the comment I thought "What was I thinking?! Of course they were 3D legos! What else could it be!"
. Anyways, good job!

haha, awesomeness! it's a great feeling when you fool someone into thinking that something you made on the computer is a photograph

lazzarynth In reply to esotericsean [2004-07-28 06:11:31 +0000 UTC]
Yea, I understand the feeling. Means you've achieved your objective; to make 3D look as real as possible. Well, like i said, i understand the feeling but i have yet to experience it myself. i'm still stuck at the basics of 3D modelling.
