Well, here's the product of my experiments.

This is a character from the videogame Dynasty Warriors, from Koei. He's also a historical character, living around 1800 years ago in Ancient China. Obviously he was my favorite character of all time on DW (got addicted to the game after a friend introduced it)
I did use the DW5 pic of Zhou Yu as reference. However, the only things that are remotely similar between the two are the eyes, the feminine-ness, and the hair color. Otherwise...artistic licence! As for viewing, you should be able to see the pink shading on his face. Otherwise, the settings on your computer are too dark.

I really really really really love this pic (but I also want criticism!!!) One of my friends commented that he looked like he wasn't really wearing anything, Not my intention, actually. This picture belongs to a bigger one (with the rest of his body), but I haven't started on that yet...so once I finish the background and the rest, I might post the totally finished picture.

Name: Zhou Yu - 周瑜
Life Span: 175 – 210 C.E. (35 years) ---- C.E. = Common Era, or A.D.
Era: Warring Kingdoms Period
Brief Summary: Zhou Yu (Gongjin) was born into a prominant family during a time of chaos for China. He mastered the arts of literature, music and warfare, later becoming the foremost strategist for the Kingdom of Wu, eventually holding the highest rank (after Emperor) of Grand Commander. Despite his brief life span, he influenced many important turning points in Chinese history, and surpassed his peers as one of the finest strategists of China. He was said to be a broad-minded, outspoken, loyal, sympathetic and trustworthy to the people. He had no interest in flowery titles or rank and when his best friend, Sun Ce, the former lord of Wu, he continued to support his best friend's younger brother -Sun Quan- for succession. (Sun Quan was not the only candidate for succession. He had a younger brothers and nephews that also held considerable rank under Sun Ce. A more likely, and possibly more attractive choice for succession was Zhou Yu himself. Zhou Yu was a member of a powerful family, and he earned the respect of many people in all the counties of Lujiang. However, Zhou Yu had no desire to take over the command, and he served Sun Quan loyaly for the years to come.)

Oh, and he was also really handsome <3. As for his um... "feminine appearance", don't blame me! In Dynasty Warriors 4, I mistook him for a girl when I first chose to play him.

~Time Taken: 14+ hours ((I'm a perfeccionist, but took WAY too long... ))
~Style: slightly anime, more realistic (took a page out of several of my favorite artists' books )
~Programs: Open Canvas 3.03+, Wacom 3 Tablet, (touched it up a bit in Photoshop 7.0)

-the second CG I drew for myself (sad, I know)
-the fifth CG I have ever done in my entire life

As for criticism...
-how do you like the coloring of his face?
-how about his hair?
-do you like the overall picture?
-do you think I took WAY to long on it?
-is there anything wrong with the picture?
-anything else you want to comment on?
-rate it 1-10!!!

NOTE: I like lots and lots of criticism.

NOTE #2: I was quite surprised myself when I finished this picture. I didn't expect it to look so nice. My normal CGing methods are VASTLY different from what you see here, but (as my other friend commented) apparently obsession caused me to do a LOT better. This is a new style for me as well...obviously.
