You do know Ruby is absolutely useless without a weapon? Sure, she has her semblance, but takes a lot of her aura, and needs to focus doing it. Plus, she mentioned in the very FIRST episode of the series that she was, and I quote, "absolute GARBAGE" before she was trained by her Uncle.

Now Sora, motherfreaking Sora, is self-taught. That's something that should be considered by a lot of people as absurd, or bullshit, if you prefer, as having those kinds swordsmanship and magic (despite the fact that he first learned magic through Merlin, he mastered it on his own), would be impossible to learn and master on your own, but we don't really know if this is true (blame the game).

Now, saying Sora is "pathetic and useless" would be.....actually, it really depends on how you see Sora as a person instead of a fighter. No one should really care if you're badass. You see, Sora says that "his friends is his power (and vice versa)" is, in a way, true. He believes that: if he can help, protect, save, and fight alongside his friends and they can do the same for him, means he is strong.

If you take away everything (weapons and other capabilities that can make them OP AS FUCK), you WILL say that they are exactly the same (you decide their differences):
Similarities
1.They love their friends and family that no matter how weak they are, they will find a way to help.
2.They both suck at fighting without a weapon.
3.They can have moments where they are completely stupid and oblivious.
4.They can't do everything on their own.
And lastly,
5.They have the same personality and leadership qualities.

If you're going to tell me all my bullshit then I have 3 words for you:
Bring it on.

She was absolute garbage BEFORE training, dipshit. That's where everyone starts. 

Sora ain't self-taught. Sora is only any good because the Keyblade gives him power and skill. Everytime Sora loses the Keyblade, he depends on other people like the Beast. Someone obviously didn't play Hollow Bastion level. If you take Ruby's scythe, she has her Semblance, and has proven time and again that even without it she's a powerhouse.

Ruby may be similar, but she's not like Sora. For all her childish behavior, she has bit more maturity than Sora. Take the first meeting with Blake. If it was Sora, it would all be whining because Blake is so gloomy. Ruby at least offers some sincere, even mature argument.

1º Not the point of argument here.
2º Once again, Ruby was trained. Sora only has anything because of the Keyblade. If it was a martial arts fight, I wage my PC that Ruby would wipe the floor with Sora's face. The most training Sora ever had in his life was wood swordfighting in the beach. Ruby lives in a world full of Heartless (cuz that's what the Grimm are when you get down to it XP). Yes, she is very childish and friendly, but she clearly has far awareness and is far tougher than Sora has EVER been, even before her adventures started.
3º Sora's moments as stupid and oblivious are FAR more frequent than Ruby's. If anything, WEISS could match Sora's dumb moments far more than Ruby.
4º Nope, but as I said before, Ruby has far more capacity than Sora. If Beast hadn't shown up in Hollow Bastion, Sora would be Heartless food. If Ruby was the Keyblade Master, she would be able to handle herself even if she lost it.
5º ...You did not just say that. When has Sora EVER been a leader? Unless I played a completely different game from you, Sora is a complete tool. He's led around all the time by Donald, Goofy, Mickey, the good guys, the bad guys, etc. Ruby ain't the best leader ever, but at least she shows aptitude and initiative. Sora, as ever, is just being led around by that giant key he's holding and everyone who has an interest in it.

I completely forgot about this until yesterday, loads of email in the mailbox. But here it is, all of your bullshit contested.

I guess my fanboy self got out of hand here and wrote bullshit.

With every bit of new info that relates to Ruby herself from all currently released volumes so far, yeah, Sora is pretty much fucked with the way things are progressing.

Turns out Silver Eye powers negate anything Sora could have, which is mostly magic. Rendering the entire arguement now moot.

This is what happens when you try to compare a simple island boy to a not-so-simple island girl/huntress(in-training).

You ever say something, then after a while later, you regret it so much that it physically hurts thinking about it? Yeah, I’m feeling that right now.

Honestly, what was I thinking? “Oh no! This guy thinks this character is better than the character I like better! Better make a damn chapter of a novel to tell him that he’s wrong (even though he’s actually right)!”

It’s kinda funny, you could probably name several other characters who follow “If X didn’t have Y, then X would be ultimately useless” and still be loved. Or not, maybe Sora’s the only one. Also funny that he’s actually an official (being owned by Disney) example of a bad OC in my eyes.

On a completely unrelated note, do you think Ruby’s been getting the short end of the stick regarding actual character development lately? It’s been two volumes and we’ve been getting more about WBY and JNR while R is just...there. Maybe I’m just getting delusional again.

Yeah, once. There was this girl named "LarxeneLovesYuri" on Youtube. As a joke, I bitched about her name. Imagine my shock when she took it seriously and changed her freaking username over it. I felt so bad I felt like sticking my head in a blender. Thankfully, I apologized and we became friends.

Personally, I dislike Sora because... well, he is a whiny self-righteous brat. I hate him in the same I have come to hate characters like Naruto and Ichigo. The world and everyone it are inherently good, no matter how many times it shows that it is the exact opposite, and anyone who disagrees must be beaten and bitched at until they change their minds. Everyone who opposes them are pure evil, no matter what their backstories and motivations are. They are dangerously close to Mary Sues, especially when some prophecy gets involved and they turn out to be THE Messiah. Just dropping the "Prophecy and Messiah" card kills the plot, because now they have Plot Armor. At least in stories like Harry Potter and Avatar the Last Airbender, the prophecy is about a future conflict which the hero may lose and die, so it keeps the plot interesting.

Well, truth be told, I always did like Ruby. I prefer characters like Blake and Weiss, but Ruby manages to be both adorable and somewhat innocent, but not obnoxiously so like Naruto or Sora. She isn't always bitching and whining at people for not sharing her worldview. But I've heard the complaints. I haven't watched the last two volumes (way too busy), but I just hope she wont get too Shonen Hero. My main issue with RWBY isn't the main characters, cuz they're great and entertaining. My main issue is (deep breath) Cinder fucking Fall. Somehow, she manages to be more flat and bland than the Organization 13, who have no freaking Hearts or emotions. She's like Dolores Umbridge, she has no backstory or deep motivation, and is so obliviously evil and unlikeable that I'm surprised even Salem wants to be near her.

For comparison: I love Soul Eater, in a way I love few animes. You have an awesome hero team with not only good motivations and well-meaning if naive philosophy, but also realistic character development. When the guys in charge start acting suspiciously, Maka and her friends don't just bow their heads and jump into missions without questioning anything like Naruto or Ichigo. They freaking ACT on their suspicions, they go their own path until all questions are answered. The villains of Soul Eater are awesome great, because they aren't just evil, but highly endearing, entertaining or at least have clear and interesting motivations. Even Medusa Gorgon, who's a complete monster, is fun to watch and has a method to her madness. Even Asura the Kishin, the Ultimate Evil, has a very human depth to him.

RWBY has awesome heroes who haven't done anything to earn my dislike unlike Konoha or Soul Society. Sure, their world isn't perfect, but Ozpin, Beacon Academy and Teams RWBY and JNPR have no part in it and are actively trying to fix it. 
RWBY has interesting villains too, so long they aren't Cinder Fall. Roman Torchwick, Neo, Adam Taurus, Tyrian. They're all evil, but they have underlying depths to them. Salem is the Ultimate Evil, but she's like Thanos, Darkseid or Sauron: Her mere presence drives the plot, and her personality makes her evil entertaining to watch, if only to get glimpses to her true motivations. Cinder feels basically like an Azula Expy; Monty Oum and his crew first designed her appearance, but fell short when it came to, you know, making her a character with human motivations and characteristics. Emerald and Mercury are less bad, but they feel like Draco Malfoy: Dumb, nasty kids who got in with some big bad, realized she's too evil but are to chicken-shit to drop out.

Yeah, that’s gotta sting if you meant it as a joke.

I understand your reasons for disliking him (and those that are of the same archetype), in fact, I’ve probably seen those reasons from others before, I’m not gonna lie, they’re really pushing him as some sort of “Savior” at this point. Apologies for the rant (years) earlier, not only was it immature, it was also poorly researched, I probably skimmed from a wiki or something.

So, Cinder Fall is your main issue, eh? You are not gonna like where her character is going then. Specifically by Volume 5. I’m not gonna say anything more that would spoil.

Soul Eater huh? I don’t watch a lot of anime (I’ve only finished a handful of animes, the ones that are seasonal and not a list of hundreds of episodes, and I’m basically only been watching two ongoing series), but I hear it’s pretty good. Don’t know if I’ll ever get around watching it though.

Interesting comparisons, though I’m not so sure about Em and Merc (probably ‘cuz I already caught up). All well said. Again, sorry for the “fandumb” moment 2 years ago, I don’t know what was going on in my head at that time, but I’m not gonna make the same mistake again any time soon.

Oh it did. I was being a bit of a Troll only, then I was like "Oh crap, now I feel like a total dick". But at least we sorted it out.

Nah, it's okay. I've got over 71 messages in my box, so I gotta comb through the whole thing to reply old posts and clean everything up.

Most anime, I tend to root for the bad guys because the heroes are often unbearable, either because they're whiny Shonen Hero, or because they submit to a faction that looks heroic at first but are really a bag of self-righteous dicks as bad as or even worse than the bad guys (i.e. Shaman King, Bleach, Naruto, Trigun, D.Gray Man, etc.). Soul Eater, RWBY, Berserk, Fullmetal Alchemist are some of the few animes where I can side with the hero and like them.

I for one beg to differ, Sora can apperently still use magic without the keyblade, and I do recall him at one point, saying, and I quote "I don't need a weapon, my friends are my power". so in my opinion, he's far from incompetent.

No, he can't, or it isn't very effective. The only reason he has any ability in the first place is the Keyblade.

You did not seriously propose "power of friendship" as a measure of power, did you? Ruby was just fine before getting any friends, so there's that. A person's true measure is what he or she can accomplish on her own. So, if Sora can't do much without Keyblade or piggybacking on others, he isn't strong in my books, just lucky.
