"He is more than a robot....he's my son"Before the X series, classic Megaman just disapeared. Most fans believe that he, along with Protoman and Bass were destroyed by Zero, but there's no concret evidence of this.
My theory is that they didnt "die", what if they just get away? After all, Megaman is in the Smash universe, isn't he? If that really happened then, it have been over 30 years and those, Rock's father, Dr. Thomas Light, is no longer alive...but it still reminds in Rock's memories.

This is the problem with Robots made by humans (from a fictional stance): when the creation grows an attachment to their creator, it's just that much more crushing when machine outlives master.

Maybe after years, possibly decades, without Dr. Light repairing him, Megaman and the rest of the robots just became obsolete? Just buried under feet of rubble and sediments. Or some kind of catastrophe hit Earth since X's city is surrounded by desert and Dr. Light's lab is found during an archaeological dig.

I think this would make Rock go insane as in the Archie comics when he got all the weapons from the Robot Masters.
Maybe not in a way that he'd try to murder anyone but still in a way that gives him emotional/personal problems just like those of his brother.

You right, I have that comic and it is really surprising the fact that Rock have some bad emotional issues (even more surprising knowing he is a robot), but I think that if this happened, he'll try his best to let him go before falling into a deppresing black hole of sadness.
Sometimes I ask to myself what happened to classic megaman before the X series, the only thing we know is that Dr. Light do not exist anymore during this series...
