Description
Another image from my Victorian era story that I got floating around in my head. The character of Oliver is present in the center of the piece with his hands on his hips. The scene is from the 1854 landings of the British, French and Turkish armies on the Crimean Peninsula as they prepared to march on Sevastapol, where they would endure appalling conditions due to the lack of effective administrative authority. One reporter made note that during the whole landing, not a single wagon or ambulance was landed to carry the wounded to the boats. The Royal Navy landed a battalion of Royal Marines, along with a Naval Brigade of sailors, who would eventually man some of the batteries besieging Sevastapol.
Hope you all enjoy!
