Description
Mostly 3d this time...Faveral's medieval buildings, a little of Stonemason's stuff and Xurge's Fantasy Ranger, plus other bits and pieces. Ron's mist, fog and smoke brushes in Photoshop. Quite a high polygon count, rendered out in 6 seperate passes and composited in CS5. If you look hard through the mist you'll see the masts of tall ships at anchor in the bay beyond the docksInspired by the work of Michael Komarck and Matt Stewart, both of whom I greatly admire.
Thanks for looking
WOOOOOOW...can't believe I got a DD for this....Big thank you for all the kind comments, but I urge you to check out Michael Komarck from whom I got a serious amount of inspiration for this one.

Yeah...I changed it slightly for The Hunt, which was used for a Magic The Gathering playmat. I did another scene which was supposed to be for another MtG playmat but unfortunately I lost contact with the guy I was doing it for (My real world work got in the way as per bloody usual). It was calledΒ Hunter-in-Ravnica, and it wasn't that bad in my humble opinion. I've never posted it here.

Damn, this is pretty good. It's... ehhhh..... ALMOST there.
The thing that always bothers me with... well... any kinda art really, are the smooth gradient surfaces... like here thos buckles are all very smooth, the belt that runs across her chest is really rubbery-lookin smooth gradient and the lighting in many of those buildings is just SLIGGGGHTLY off. The contrast is missing just a little bit and the really soft gradient shadows just make everything look like it's modelled... what it is! but you don't want it to look that way.
Unnatural smoothness also bothers me in animations... you know -- when the character just moves his hand in an overly smooth progression... something that nobody does in the real world.

To make it more realistic you just need more of those harsher touches. Make it gritty! and not so smooth. The overview of the city is just damn good and only the tower in the middle clues you that it might be 3D. Oh and the sword she's got fastened in her back is lighter very brightly. Use darkness more. It's better if you can't quite see everything but the details are there!
Great job.

I thought this was a painting! 3D stuff usually looks kinda off when it's trying to imitate a painting, but this is excellent. DD very much deserved.

Are the characters from Poser? I'm beginning to be more and more impressed by what Poser can do.
