Description
I started to develop an idea of doing a graphic novel but realised quite quickly that the sheer amount of work involved in producing that many images would require years of work (and I didn't even have a fully completed story at that point). Instead I've decided to illustrate scenes in the story as they occur to me as a way of stimulating inspiration, including doing character and scene concepts...I may even attempt story pages if the mood takes me...It's just a way of developing new ideas and skills and keeping my imagination active, set in the same universe but not necessarily with a linear narrative, and it's just for fun.I'm going with the overall title of 'Archon' and it's gritty, dark and possibly mildly erotic sci-fi for the most part, and starts on the Long Haul Freighter the Texas Rose, which is the image above. Not really done a full blown space scene before so please forgive if it's a little rough around the edges.
I've completed 10 images that I'm happy with so far so will post the rest soon.
Thanks for looking and hope you like it.

This reminds me of the opening cinematic of the original StarCraft. A dreary salvage vessel cleans up the skies above Chau Sara and finds itself smack between a Protoss Mothership and the planet it was sent to 'purify.' Perhaps it's the engines reminding me of the Hyperion.

It's amazing how it seems to remind so many people of different things...thanks for the comments.

Archon... I like that name. It's greek and translates into Ruler, Lord, or Magistrate, if I remember correctly, anyway - the picture: It, looks, AWESOME. I love the stars, the lights of the engines, the radio mast seems like a nice touch too!
You're no doubt right though - that by creating a graphic novel with such detailed imagery would take quite a while (Especially if we're talking a new image every minute or two, although you could always re-use some in different situations... But if you put enough effort into the writeup (Maybe get someone to help you if you've got no confidence writing) I bet you could make something truly awesome! You're already more than good enough artistically at least!
Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing more

Thanks for the kind words...I may still have a go at the novel, though the story is coming in drips at the moment. New 3d content, images I see on DA, snippets of info such as what you've given me (It was at the back of my mind but to honest the name came from an old Star Trek episode) are all sending the story in new directions, which is I think a great way to construct a story, but at some point I'm going to have to nail it down and construct something concrete.

I know what you mean. I was struggling for inspiration and this seemed like a good way to go to keep the images coming.

I'll probably look at it at some point...kinda just setting up the ground work for now, see how that works out first. Unfortunately my new job is getting in the way a lot.

Nice work.
This image reminds me of a short story by Bruce Sterling called "Spider Rose". The story is about a lonely space pirate who survives by hiding in an asteroid belt and ambushing merchant spaceships. The merchants name her Spider Rose because of "webs" she builds in the debris field to catch her prey. It's a great short story with a twist ending. Spider Rose is in a collection of Sterling short stories called "Crystal Express".

This reminds me of a game called X3 Terran Conflict, because it looks like a ship that was created by the race known as the Teladi.

If you do your novel you may have to learn to cut corners, or work smarter, to get it finished quickly

Thanks for the advice...To be honest once you've got the 3d scene set up and the lighting sorted you can keep using it over and over, just reposing the characters and camera angles. I just need to get out of the habit of rendering at very high resolutions and taking hours in Photoshop for post work. My other problem is that I get bored quickly so I will need to commit to the project to get it done.

Thanks...wish I could take credit for the modelling but it's mostly a kit bash from various stuff on my runtime, plus a few homemade greebles here and there...I wanted to give it a grungy, well used look.
