Description
So, I'm trying to move away from drawing only wolves or even just mammals for that matter. I love birds and actually have a couple (a sun conure and an african grey) So that is what inspired this. This was a bit of an experiment for both a study of birds and testing out some new layers. I'm happy with how it turned out. (as you can see as I have made it my avatar picture)The pose is a little strange and it looks more like I don't know how to draw a bird in flight then the fluffed up look I was trying to do. *shrug* oh well.
Enjoy

I'm neither an expert on birds or art so take this with a grain of salt, but the only real criticism I would have of the picture is about the posture.
The wings are extended yet the 'shoulders' are tucked in around the head, making it look very cramped. Unless you are going for an uncomfortable look, I would either extend the inner wing in proportion with the extension of the outer wing, or bring the outer wings in so it looks more like it's tucked into itself and 'snuggling'. Either would look a lot more more natural.
If it's the result of choosing an unusual frame which otherwise looks fluid when animated, this obviously doesn't apply quite so much e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

Overall you've done a good job of conveying the appearance of a sun conure. The next step is working on conveying its personality, and that can largely comes down to posture.
Be sure to submit the animation when it's done too e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

Thank you. I really appreciate you taking the time to write this.
You are quite right in saying the pose is awkward, however, it was done on purpose. Sadly, rather then the affect I was going for it simply appears that I don't have a clue about bird anatomy or how a bird in flight looks. My guess is that it would have gone over better if the flight feathers were curved inward rather then spreading out as though the wings were fully opened.
And I may have been unclear, this wasn't originally made as a frame of a full animation, rather I use my animation program as if it were a drawing program. I could make an animation though. I probably will eventually.
Thank you again for this. I am really grateful for constructive criticism. I suppose I'll just have to blow you away on the next one (or at least do the best I can). Thank you.

Ooh what a pretty bird! I sometimes forget how lovely sun conures are until I see a wonderful drawing of one.
But I love my crabby bird, even when it tries to touch my face with its tongue.

Conures are wonderful. All kinds. Suns might be especially pretty, but they always seem to be very silly and sweet... except mine is currently on a selfish diva streak (she is a sun). d'aaw thank you! I really appreciate that. thank you
ooh what kind of crabby bird dost thou have?

I have a sun conure too. She's hilarious and cute, even when she's being a little diva. She really likes to snuggle. xD

Aw. Mine is an ear-chewer too. She thinks it's really funny to bite people. And she grumbles quietly while she snuggles.

ear nibbles are the best. I dunno... ours just doesn't like being held close, she loves diving into shirts, but hugs and being cupped in hands are bad.

I just feel intrusive sometimes when I write too much, or without sense.

Actually it's Sunnie with an "ie" because it looks more original that way. Which I need every ounce of originality to balance off the horrible-ness of naming a sun conure Sunnie. ()
Anyways... isn't she lovely? *nuzzles fluffeh birdy*
I love joo!

etesian In reply to ferretallica [2010-01-20 15:17:02 +0000 UTC]
Nay. I just colored it with very bright colors and looked at it through an "onion skin".
See,I use an animation program (called Pencil) for all my drawings and part of the program is when you are making the next slide you have to see the previous one. To get this kinda faded effect, I drew the picture and colored it in using bright colors and then created a new slide and looked at it through the skin and this is what it looked like. Ta-da!
Sorry for the long winded explanation.
