Description well, i never thought it would happen but i've finally got an assignment in school i actually enjoyed doing! i cant explain it, but for some reason i really had fun doing this. Maybe its because this is the first time i finally got to illustrate something in my own style rather than just getting forced to draw realistice shapes and cylinders or some of the other crap were assigned in art school.

This is for my monday Graphic Design class, the point of this assignment was to create 3 posters for "amnesty international." the theme of the posters is supposed to relate to the "Noble Eightfold Path" which is practiced in Buddism. So i had to choose 3 of the Paths from this belief system and illustrate them in a way that would properly communicate the message of each path. and it was designed to create awareness around a particular lecture series which would bridge the gap between religions and understanding of other cultures and beliefs.
So this is part of a set of 3 posters but im only gonna post 2 of them, cause the 3rd once i did super-duper LAST minute! like 4am, the night of!

for this once specifically, it drew the guy as normal, coloured in markers and just placed each of the text individually in photoshop. yup...nothing else i can say really!

hopefully this will tide you guys over untill i post something again, which is more "anime" style.

heh, thats intesting! eating his words! not like literally of course but like assuming he didnt follow what he said or said one thing and did another he would be "eating his words" if he ever got caught.
y'know! "eating his words?" that expression?

you know?

ahh...forget it!

very striking poster, it would be good if it was made into a real one for amnesty international or something. the fake looks sunken which adds to it, and i kno the orange of the eye ties in with the other oranges, but i maybe blue or green would make the character seem more real or something, but gr8 work well done.

yeah your totally right about the orange eye. it thought about it too cause since your looking from the side i guess its not so scary but if the guy turned his head i'd be pretty freaked myself!

and thanks for thinking that these are good enough for REAL posters! ha, ha! some peoples stuff in my class were just amazing though, like they can actually be confused as real posters if the guy had put them up on some wall.

though i dont quite get this.. the creativity is striking.
especially the other one, its really eye -catchy!

did u say u put every single letter on ONE AT A TIME?!
wow.. thats some incredible patience uve got there! >"<
i thought u had ways to do it without much effort..
does that mean u did the same thing for "letterhead"??

kinda wanna see the third one, just cause u said there was one~
one way or another, doing something u actually like is great..
hope u do well in school as well as post more of ur art!

hee hee....
im sure there IS an easier way to make the letters like that, but yeah the way i do it is just type each letter out individually as a layer and then move it around untill i get what i like. its actually easier and kinda fun to do it, so its not really hard or anything just tedious...and yeah i did the same thing for the letterhead one, i should show you the origonal without the text, i actually looks like a totally diffrent drawing!

and the third one...ehh.....its kinda REALLY simple. trust me i didnt post it for a reason! i drew it 4am the night of! but ill show you the origonal when you see my sketchbook! its a guy with four arms and hes sitting ontop of a mountain and each arm is open palmed and not doing anything. its supposed to represent "right action."

and yeah finally i can say that school is fun!

wow.. i hope its not too scary.. hehe ^^
but i doubt it looks as bad as u are impplying~
anyway, ill know when i see it~

ps. finally saying "school is fun" eh?
i bet ull take that back in less than a week

I have actually studied the 8 fold path lightly,

right speech is right up your alley when it comes to your use of text in pieces hehe.

I could imagine you doing a "right meditation" well

Ethereal-Mind In reply to tieton [2004-11-16 02:53:25 +0000 UTC]

really? you studied it? like as in tried it before?
i tried it too, like i think if i were ever a religious person Buddism would be my religion but i dont think its possible to practice non-materialism and all that while living in a consumer-based society. Or it'd be pretty damned hard either way to avoid want for material possessions while going downtown or something...maybe thats just me.

thanks for the comment! yeah doing text in pieces is fun, AND easy!

as with all things religion is a perception of greater intent.

as in this it would be YOUR perception and none other's

my suggestion if you want to "try" buddhism (spelled with an H) think about the practical application of objects you wish to buy. then consider the world and time in which buddhism was created. then take from each what makes you feel ok. dont worry about whether or not you are demeaning any "religion" in your actions. the splicing of worlds and concepts has happened for millenia. the idea is to let them co-exist.

good luck friend

ha ha! BUDDHISM! i knew that! (no i didnt) i have bad grammar and english is supposed to be my FIRST language!

actually, i dunno if id ever TRY buddHism! but i like to think that i live my life as a deacent person and i dont need to be a religious person to do nice things. although i sometimes think that "good" and "bad" are just concepts which humans create to make a society run more smoothly but yeah, thats something else.

thanks again!
