So I decided to deviate from what I planned, so instead I wanted to share a little headcanon. Honestly, I initially didn't plan on this. I did wanted to draw something for Autism Acceptance Month, but wasn't sure what. By the time I had an idea, months had passed. Oops...

All because I have this vague memory of a dream I had. I only remember how Joe very tiredly said "Holy crap... I can finally unmask." I know a lot about neurodivergence lately, so I immediately thought that he was referring to autistic masking. This wasn't the first time I had a dream about Joe.

Though I'm not sure if he said those words to himself or to someone else. If it's towards someone else, then who? So I assumed that he must've said that to my OC Eleanor (nicknamed Ellie) since she's his beloved. I thought in this context, they recently agreed live in his home for a short while. And he only just got back and immediately plopped on the couch tiredly. I mean, he's an introvert and autistic, yet he has to act extroverted and neurotypical, and also lead an entire camera crew while worrying whether Woody will get in danger during the filming of NfH. I mean, when Woody is in any danger, Joe gets in trouble and gets scolded by the manager Maxwell (even though he's at least a lot kinder than the previous manager). Joe actually doesn't easily get tired since he has years of experience, but he's still human.

I think it's fine because this headcanon won't change his personality. And really, autism isn't bad. So there should be autism acceptance.

In case you're wondering, masking is a defense mechanism (often unconscious) that is often associated with neurodivergence. Neurodivergent people mask to avoid judgment and negativity by other people in general so that they can be accepted and perceived positively (or at least perceived neutrally). At least that's how I can explain it.

There are also a few of my OCs that I now consider neurodivergent. Because there aren't enough accurate representations in general anyway. And Ellie has ADHD, so she's one of those OCs who are neurodivergent.

Either way, I love this ship and SoftTrap (Woody and Shelly). Both ships are really cute! I should've drawn Joe and Ellie without their jackets (and without her scarf) in this picture. I was too lazy to do it, but I might edit it and update it later. I also wasn't sure how I'd draw the background, so I ended up making it plain. Heh, it has been a long time since the last time I drew this ship anyway. I want to draw this ship again, but I'm just not sure when.

Edit 8.8.2023 - I edited the picture like how I wanted it to be. So now Joe and Ellie are wearing casual clothes here. And it's all thanks to this simple picture www.deviantart.com/etherealdre…

Edit 23.2.2024 - I noticed that there was a mistake with Joe's sweater, so I quickly fixed it.
