Description Today's tutorial was requested by Ryan Dunlavey on Twitter, who asked for a tutorial on HORSES. Since that's a pretty big subject, I'm splitting it up, dealing with the heads here, and the other bits of the horse in future episodes!

If you found today's tutorial useful, check out the links below for MORE TUTORIALS covering how to draw...

I have always struggled to draw horses, no matter what tutorial I follow. But, definetly going to try giving this a go!

Any idea when you will do a tutorial on doing the horse's body?

After being fed art "tutorials" from the likes of a certain artist with the last name of Hart I've always been skeptical of taking advice from any big name or popular artists. However, I decided to give this tutorial and your "change one thing" tutorial and honestly this advice has really really helped me. Thank you for using your art skills to help and teach others, it's very admirable.

I'm so glad you found the tutorials useful, yes, I totally understand your viewpoint, but as I hope you'll see, these tutorials, and the whole approach to drawing within the series is all about explaining the "why' behind process and approach, as opposed to just giving you a step-by-step which teaches you one thing, but then can't be applied to any other application or style. My goal is to actually empower artists with thousands of ideas and skills which stick with them, and can be used in a multitude of ways. I hope you enjoy all the tutes I have on the way

What about bodies ? Thanks for all the tutorials and I hope you don’t mind me asking but the rock tutorial a have a question about. Do you generally break it down to shapes or just draw the lines?

Bodies tutorials coming up! In terms of the rocks - always, always start with the simple shpaes, this is the core of EVERYTHING

If you pratcise a lil', can you make tutorials about animation?

EtheringtonBrothers In reply to 0Luna123 [2017-07-24 08:31:49 +0000 UTC]

A lot of the ideas here actually come from animation, but yes, there are more with animation-elements to come, stay tuned!

novui [2017-02-15 10:57:07 +0000 UTC]

TUTORIAL REQUEST: Could you do a "meta" tutorial that is just about the very basics of making your awesome lines? Are you using a nib pen that you dip into ink, or a brush in ink, or some particular kind of drawing pen like a Micron, or a combination, or what? And then do you do the shading on the computer? Even my awkward lack of terminology should show you how rudimentary my knowledge is. These tutorials are AMAZING, I LOVE your style, and I get all this energy to try to make these lines myself, but I don't know where to start. If you think that would be too basic for this series, and there is already some awesome tutorial on this you can link to, that would be splendid too. Thank you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EtheringtonBrothers In reply to novui [2017-02-15 16:14:16 +0000 UTC]

Hey Novui! Thanks so much for this request, I'm going to be doing some on techniques as well as on drawing subjects, and this is a great suggestion. I've added it to the list!

Thank you so much for the kind words on the tutorials, so glad they're firing you up to draw, even if you're feeling a little held back by your abilities. I would say, the important thing is to just start drawing with whatever you have to hand - pencil, ball point pen, it really doesn't matter. The ideas here can be applied to any style or medium, and you'll improve faster if you don't worry too much about the drawing tools, and just concentrate on the two tools that count: Your brain and your hand. The more they get used to drawing and thinking about how to express your ideas through the way you draw, the easier it will get to ape any style with any medium.

All of these included in the books?

EtheringtonBrothers In reply to Dogz [2017-02-15 16:16:43 +0000 UTC]

No, the sketchbooks are collections of designs, sketches, concepts, illustrations etc etc, whereas all these tutorials are new this year, and will be collected into their own book next year

Thanks for looking,  I have been drawing horses since I was tiny, but there is always room for improvement, I love horses but I can't ride any more (Due to an accident) so I draw them  instead.
