Description
Decided to fix this preening sketch up from before and make it look a bit more polished! I had a lot of fun on this. Still didn't narrow down a raptor species, I just wanted to get a feeling for them overall.I very nearly gave her cockatiel markings, but veered off towards falconet at the end instead.

Thank you! I think it's fun thinking about what dinosaurs are doing in their "downtime" haha. Chasing their tail would be pretty funny--or if they pulled other dinosaurs' tails like crows do?Β

Yeah, the way we conceptualize dinosaurs has changed so rapidly, they really feel like living and vibrant animals now! I hope you have read All Yesterdays by John Conway, he does a great job of looking into the different ways dinosaurs could have had weird behaviors we just don't know about, it was an amazing read.Β

Havenβt read that yet. Is it a fiction or nonfiction book?

It's nonfiction, but speculative--essentially, it critiques some of the ways paleoartists work in respect to how they show dinosaurs, and drives home the point that dinosaurs could be so much more weird and wild than we could ever have guessed, because they were animals, and animals do unexpected things, or have soft tissues that aren't strongly hinted at by their skeletons, and so on. It's a really beautiful and impactful book.Β

I didn't have any specific raptor in mind when I painted it, no.

Very cute. Lovely job on the feathers especially around the chest, they really look soft and plush. Colours remind me of these guys!Β news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8β¦

Thanks so much! I hadn't done feather painting very much so it was a bit of an experiment for meΒ haha. I loooveΒ Anchiornis huxleyi and its colors so much. While I hadn't been thinking of them directly, I guess they're a good example of black white and orange working well together, haha.

Thanks! The orange does make it look a lil bit foxy, doesn't it? Haha.

Thank you! It was fun looking at different birds for inspiration. I'm hoping to get more skilled with the critters as time goes on.

It is! I've got a lot of research ahead of me but I'm hoping the results will be worthwhile.

Thank you! I don't color feathered animals very often (I usually draw kiwis which are basically covered in fur) so I'm glad the texturing worked out. Hopefully I'll keep getting better at it! >:T
