Overview card for the Mass Effect Trishul class Interceptor of the Systems Alliance. A concept i made a while ago to showcase the three major human starfighters, the Interceptor, the Fighter and the Bomber. When i made the comparison for the three (Alliance Fighter types ) i had the Star Wars ships in mind, the A-Wing (Interceptor), the X-Wing (Fighter) and the Y-Wing (Bomber). So, this thing here is the A-Wing of the Mass Effect Universe.

Trishul Interceptor ASI-One
Short range Interceptors like the Trishul are a type of fighter optimized to attack other fighters, bombers or missiles. With no ability to damage starships bigger than a Corvette, interceptors are used to screen friendly units from incoming fighter or missile attacks.
Trishul Interceptors were designed for widespread use in the Alliance Navy because the ship is easy and quick to build without major cost. The Alliance is able to build more than ten thousand of Trishul fighters for the price of an regular cruiser.

They are leightweighted enough that they can be economically fitted with powerful element zero cores making them capable of greater acceleration and sharper manouvers as larger ships. Designed as a fighter killer, the Trishuls specially designed Element Zero engine produces thousands of pounds of thrust more than the next leading star fighter.

The ship has a single pilot working together with a tactical VI to support with automatic aiming, threat control and anti cyber warfare. The Trishul has top of the line detection equipment, designed to spot and catch fighters and missiles.

The ship is armed with four hardpoints at the front side of the wings. In typical they are mounted with 4 moveable Mass Accelerator Machine Guns each with a length of 1,9 meters. Controlled by the tactical VI, these guns can intercept a whole volley of missiles or a squadron of enemy fighters. Much rarer are the use of Air to Air missile pods to fight more armored targets like bombers or Gunships. But with the more and more advancing GARDIAN technologies even on fighters, missiles become almost obsolet.

While the Interceptor has teeth, its main weakness is shields. While its kinetic barriers are still strong, they are nowhere near what is required in a full combat situation. Relying mainly on speed and fast strikes, the Trishul is not recommended for a pilot with half a brain.
Trishul Fighters had no FTL cabability so they are reliant on a Carrier ship or a near base to refueling.
