Appearance: Rantai is a Spirit Guardian from the forest region of Nilou. Her height clocks in at a whopping 6’ and, though not entirely fit, her build is thin and lithe. She has the basic anatomy of a normal Spirit; white fur, a pair of paws with three digits each and a pair of hooves. She also has a pair of lopped-ears, a pair of horn-like antennae and white hair that covers the right side of her face.
Like most spirits, Rantai radiates a glow as well; a light purplish color. One notable thing about Rantai’s appearance is her blindfold - it is a light purple cloth made from silk that covers her eyes and goes around her head. Another thing of note are her large dark purple markings under her eyes that resemble almost like tears.
Personality Description: Despite how ominous and intimidating Rantai’s appearance is, she is a very gentle spirit, never resorting to violence unless absolutely necessary. She would never kill a living creature, as her duty as Nilou’s Gravekeeper made her appreciate all life and living things. She believes that all things deserve to live out their full lives, and accomplishing your goals in this singular life is what you should always strive for - Memento Mori.
As the Gravekeeper, Rantai has accustomed herself to death, yet she has never shown any regret or sorrow of burdening this heavy duty. She is empathic and understanding to those grieving their losses. She is kind and caring for both the deceased and their loved ones and will do her job to respect and provide comfort for them.
With how incredibly melancholic her job naturally is, you would think that she too would be very melancholic as well. You will think wrong, as Rantai is very chatty. It will come off as very off-putting but she is always very eager to chat about anything, even death-related things. She is quite extroverted and social, and is always trying to make friends.
Rantai is an advocate of the preservation of memory, and the loss of such is an extremely heavy blow on her psyche. She believes that preserving memories of the past, of those who have passed, should be celebrated that they have lived a life that would’ve been gratifying. Losing such memories is almost earth-shattering for Rantai, and that would make her feel like she has failed her duty as the Gravekeeper to keep these memories safe. Which brings up to the next point: her self-deprecation.
Rantai often hides this behind her usually happy self, but hidden beneath is a strong amount of self-hatred and pain. There are often times where her Light is just no use in events where her Light would’ve been crucial, and it pains her that she could not have done so. She doubles down on her doubts and views herself as a complete failure whenever something like this happens and would never be able to forgive herself.
Another thing about Rantai is that she is adverse at the sight or act of taking a life, ironically. Unless it is a monster with full intent of causing harm to others, Rantai becomes dejected when someone has performed the act of killing. Her view on death is that one should go peacefully without having to extend their suffering, so killing something, especially when they don’t die immediately, upsets her immensely.
In short, Rantai is someone who values life deeply despite having such a death-centric duty. She is kind because life is short and everyone should deserve kindness. Her respect for the dead is highly appreciable as her will remains unbroken.
Spirit Weave: Rantai’s main ability as Nilou’s Gravekeeper, where she can use her Light to transform the light of deceased spirits into manifested silk fabrics. These fabrics then can be used as either memorabilia for their loved ones, or as a way for lightless creatures to wield their light as well. The latter is rarely used because Rantai herself has forbidden any lightless creatures to have access to her fabrics due to many cases of them misusing the light. The fabrics made from this are durable and are able to resist tearing from normal means.
Unravel: An extension of Spirit Weave, Rantai can create silk fabrics from her own Light or the light around her. These are different from the fabrics made from Spirit Weave, as these fabrics are strangely incredibly more durable that they can withstand blows from metal weapons, explosions, burns and other things that would normally ruin normal fabric. The length of which these fabrics can be made are dependent on Rantai’s energy.
Spirit Bond: Rantai can bind herself to another ally using non-tangible threads of light to create the connection. By using this ability, Rantai can share memories, heals and damages received by their ally and vice versa. There is no limit of range once Rantai binds herself to her ally, but she does need to be within 2-3 feet of them to cast it first. This also works on recently dead creatures and spirit trees, although this is more used to gain their memories before their passing.
