Description
Dextro Methorphan (DXM) is not only the most well-known over-the-counter cough suppressant; he also shares the reputation as the most well-known dissociative hallucinogens with PCP and Ketamine . Because there are too many molecules named Dextro, people nickname him Robo as a reference to his brand name Robitussin . Besides cough syrup, DXM often appears in the form of red, translucent gel capsules . Despite having a brilliant mind and obtaining his Pharm.D. degree in the 50s, he preferred to work behind the scenes and went unnoticed for decades. Even in the 80s when he began to associate with the hardcore punk subculture, his recreational use was largely underground. He prefers the term "vacation" over "trip" for his hallucinogenic effects.Though DXM has a great deal of professionalism as a pharmacist, he wears his piercings and punk hairstyle at work. Most of the time he looks nonchalant at best, and grumpy or miffed at worst. But these things don't deter people from seeing him and asking for his advises because he knows everything about pharmaceuticals (or maybe they just want to see what a punk pharmacist looks like).
The psychoactive effect of DXM is described as four dose-dependent plateaus, each plateau with its own distinct characteristics. The first plateau is mild stimulation, the second sedation, the third mild dissociation, and the fourth full-on dissociation and hallucinations! During the upper plateaus, people can become more introspective, experience close-eyed visual hallucinations, lose contact with their bodies and the physical world, encounter entities, or become downright terrified. Interestingly, people and molecules who have met DXM tend to polarize into three groups: they either love him, hate him, or feel nothing and don't even bother to talk to him again.
Despite how DXM presents himself, under the hard and cool-headed exterior hides a soft and self-conscious individual. There are even times he is convinced that nobody likes him. (Some people made it worse by saying to his face that they were only with him because they couldn't find other "better" drugs.) He is a close relative of the Morphine family; however, he does not inherit a bit of their analgesic power - his affinity to the opioid receptors is almost nonexistent (It has to do with his stereochemistry.), his affinity to the NMDA receptor (responsible for the dissociative effects) is only apparent at high doses - and he does not have the tall, slender physique and pinpoint pupils the rest of the family have. Initially, he was developed to substitute Codeine as a non-addictive cough medicine, and he did turn out to be much better in that aspect. Although such situation could have made them rivals, DXM and Codeine don't seem to have big enough egos to spite each other. In fact, they are good friends and cousins once removed.

I've tried this twice(I think) and am not sure what to make of it! Was several years ago and my memory's fuzzy. I know I had a "hangover" that lasted for like a week though!

Hmm, it's weird that you had a "hangover" for so long. I had DXM for cough, and it was effective. Other than that, I only took more once and had a lower plateau experience. Judging from it, unfortunately, I seemed to be one of those people who couldn't care less about this drug, but I hope one day I could meet him again in a higher plateau experience.

Try him with shrooms. It is Something Inexpressible.

I haven't read any report of combining 5-HT2A agonist + NMDA antagonist, that is psychedelic + a type of dissociative hallucinogen, but it sounds interesting.
