Speed(Jolteon) use to support his family by entering racing tournaments to earn poke before moving in with Pearl(espeon) and the others. He also formed a rescue team with his friend Shinx (who is now a luxray) without his family knowing. He was known to be a very fast and agile combatant, but later retired from racing and rescuing after hatching Sunshine(eevee) because he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Apparently he wants to keep his old adventuring life quiet.
