Description

It's finally finished! I am so sorry for how long it took me to finish this. There were multiple factors as to why it took so long. But, honestly, I'm incredibly happy with how it turned out, and I'm excited to share it with you all. This drawing is based off of a "vision" that I had. It was more like a Heavenly inspired idea that I could picture in my mind, but you get the idea. It illustrates why the path of repentance can be so difficult and painful. Please read the "vision" below. I really hope that it's helpful in some way. I love you guys.~

The Concept Behind the Drawing:

There is a straight and narrow path that God has laid for us to follow. The path is lined with bright white lights and a sturdy metal railing runs along the center of the path. The path is completely uphill, it's not perfectly flat, and there are bumps and obstacles in the road, and strong winds can blow against us at times. But, nonetheless, it is paved and sure. All along the road are dirt paths that curve and wind and lead down and away from the road, into darkness. Often, we stumble and fall and may even slip a few inches or feet off of the road, but we get up and continue along the straight and narrow road. And when we do fall and lack the strength to continue, our Savior can come to our aid. But sometimes we wonder off the road and onto one of these strange paths. Maybe we were curious; maybe we gave in to peer pressure or followed others; or maybe we believed the distracting signs promising us "Short Cut!" or "This way for a good time!"; or we believed that taking a peek couldn't hurt, no one would know, and we could find our way back easily. Or maybe these strange paths are all we've ever known. Whatever the cause, we find ourselves in darkness, on winding paths, having completely lost our sense of direction. It's cold, we're lost, and we feel within us the emptiness and void around us. Maybe we think we're happy, but the void and negativity thereof linger. But a loving voice beckons to us and a wounded hand reaches for us. If we will but look and listen, we will find our Savior Jesus Christ. He, and He alone, can and will guide us back to the straight, bright, and paved road that leads directly back home, to the presence of God. However, He doesn't take us back the way we came. Christ knows the way, so He takes us in a straight course towards the road home. But there's no path. We climb uphill, and in our way are rocks, boulders, trees, briars, bodies of water, mud slides, and even venomous serpents. All while our vision is cloaked in darkness. Some think the task is too great and the pain too much, so they desire to return to the easier path in the darkness, not caring where it leads them. But we should never do this. The journey is difficult, but we need to remember that our Savior is right there with us. He doesn't leave our side unless we push Him away. We will have to push through the briars and trees, wade through the water and mud, and surmount the rocks, boulders, and cliffs, and we may even be bitten by the serpents; but if we look to Christ, reach  out for Him, and call out to Him, He will come to our rescue. He will help us get back up and carry on. He may carry us, or lead us by the hand, or instruct us to follow and stay in His light. And when we fall and lack the strength to carry on, He may even simply sit with us, hold us, console us with His loving words, and just stay with us. He may heal us, or stop the bleeding, treat the wound, remove the venom, or simply provide us with the strength to endure until we heal on our own or until He later heals us. Finally, we find ourselves bathed in light on a familiar path that has a direct course to the best reward we could ever ask for; exaltation and eternal happiness with our Heavenly Parents, our dear Brother and Friend, Jesus Christ, and all of our spirit family who have qualified for this same reward; never to be separated again. What a remarkable reward! Even this paved road won't be easy in the slightest degree, and we absolutely need to learn for ourselves how to stay on it, and develop our own conviction and testimony to help us do so. But no matter how hard the journey is, it is worth it.

And we can also do for others what Christ does for us. When we go in search of those who are lost we need to take with us the light from the bright white lights that line the road, and we need to take care of it to keep it bright and pure, because it can turn to darkness if we're not careful, which pushes the Savior away.

What is Repentance?

Repentance is one of the first principles of the gospel and is essential to our temporal and eternal happiness. It is much more than just acknowledging wrongdoings. It is a change of mind and heart that gives us a fresh view about God, about ourselves, and about the world. It includes turning away from sin and turning to God for forgiveness. It is motivated by love for God and the sincere desire to obey His commandments. And, in the words of the living Prophet, Russell M. Nelson: "The word for repentance in the Greek New Testament is metanoeo. The prefix meta- means “change.” The suffix -noeo is related to Greek words that mean “mind,” “knowledge,” “spirit,” and “breath.” Thus, when Jesus asks you and me to “repent,” He is inviting us to change our mind, our knowledge, our spirit—even the way we breathe."
