This is really cool. Good of you to spend your time putting this together. Thanks
I wonder if you can help me with something. I've been pondering on what is the best way to work out the size of the eye-ball relative to the eye socket/face.
Thanks again.

Wonderful tutorial. Where was deviant art when I was fresh out of college and in need of guidance? This would have been a Godsend to me 20 years ago!!! Jeez it nearly made me choke when I typed that

Wow Evan - what an incredible tutorial!
What clay did you use for your original?
Really beautiful mold BTW!

SUPER awesome!! A question though... What did you start with regarding the original sculpture. Specifically, what was it's consistency? Was it a hardened clay or was it still somewhat plyable? You mentioned that you sprayed it with a clear coat. The reason I ask is because I would assume you would run into trouble removing the plaster mold (especially from the front) since there are undercuts around the mouth and nostrils.
Does the original sculpture get destroyed?
Thank you for sharing your expertise. I am "re-career-ing" myself as a prop maker for the theater and this is invaluable information for me.
Thanks in advance!!

great questions...I will add the answers to the artist comments. Yeah the clay sculpture is still soft and the sculpture does get destroyed and the undercuts would be exactly what you mentioned.

Although I don't do this kind of stuff, it really helps show how much work you go through.

Cool tutorial, really gives a lot of insight as to how your work process goes. Never really imagined it to be this complicated.
Again, great tutorial

Wicked tutorial dude, absolutely love it, your inspiring me to have a crack at it!! these materials especially the bag of plaster are fairly expensive here in Australia - typically what would this mould cost you to make from scratch ?

I didn't know all that stuff :3 This is great learning material XD I probably would have just slopped all that plaster around the sculpture and make a big mess. When I look at the two molds, they look so clean and perfect *_* (Or are my eyes just too untrained lol XD). It looks really nice so far :3 The pictures you took for each step are both lit very well and clear, and showing different angles really helps a lot. I can't wait for part 2! XD Great work!

I Don't mean to sound derogatory man, and please if you meant that as sarcasm ignore what im about to say!! But thats the kind of attitude that the artistic movement doesn't need at all, people should be exposed to the traditional methods & techniques offered by senior and experienced masters - if ONLY to get people excited about the honing their traditional skills!!! Its sad to see these areas falling away whilst someone ( LIKE ME LOL ) can pick up digital software and make something similar without barely lifting a finger!
