You know, I'm just re reading some of these chapters, but I've always had this nagging question;
What is the whole "bound" thing about Djinn? I mean, I understand they are bound to a place or person...But what is bad about not having either?

I interpret it as an eternity with no free will, and nobody who has the power to give you orders. You cannot do anything. At all. And since djinn are immortal, well... you can see how that wouldn't be much fun.
