thats not always true. Sure you'll find that jerk that does but you have to realize when you are really in love. is it the attention, no. is it for the friendship, absolutly. Aristotle said the same exact things about friendship and love relationships, its about one soul and two bodies. meaning you have to mix and serve eachother equally, until then you really have nothing. Don't give everything away because you deserve more then that, you deserve at least the equal amount of pure care that you give to them. now that is love.
