So prepare for another VERY long analysis about Ninjago Dragons Rising. Today we'll be talking about Sora.

This piece was a challenge but a ton of fun. I needed to practice shading and backgrounds as I am required to do more of that in school, and while I have to work on it a lot more I'm proud with what I was able to accomplish. I decided to do a piece on Sora because after watching part 2, I found myself getting frustrated with her character.

I really want to like Sora, there's so much of her to like. (If you can't tell she's my favorite NDR character to draw) She has a great design, a great VA, and there's so much about her backstory and personality that I want to like about her. She should be my favorite character but has ended up being one of least favorite NDR characters I don't dislike her but I think she's kind of boring. Also her power is really confusing and every time I see her use it I just cock my head. How is tech power supposed to work? If give her an elemental power you must why not light? Light is extremely powerful being the fastest thing in the known universe, a source of energy and heat, and give her the power of the hard light she invented early and she could be invincible too. And unlike "tech" light is an actual NATURAL ELEMENT. As for her character I see her as a big "pity me" sign. She has had a hard life and I do sympathize with her but I think the show is a little confused on her trauma. In the show her character arc is all about her believing herself and while that is an important lesson it should be more tied to Arin. The powerless child whose talent in the art of spinjitzu is a tad more in the air and definitely experimental. But Sora? Her VA, Sabrina Pitre, confirmed in an interview with Brent Miller that she is 15-years-old and in that short amount of time she has already invented an incredible gadget that attracted the attention of adult inventor idol and her realm's dictator as a child, and then years later completely uprooted her corrupt realm practically by herself? She's incredible why does she have self confidence issues whe her whole life everyone has told her how amazing she is. And I know compliments can only do so much, I've been complimented about a lot of things in life, but those have done very little as I still have very low self esteem. But at least in my case I have actual failures to stress over. Sora really doesn't.

I drew this piece because I think Sora needs to pushed around a bit. Not a ton, she's already been through a lot and I don't want her to be the franchise's new trauma punching bag. But I think there needs to be moment where she's pushed to her edge but stands up anyway. Without relying on her powers or her friends, hence why she's not using her powers in this image and is holding up her non-armored arm. Gold07Arts made a comment in her last NDR stream that Sora doesn't really understand the phrase "Ninja never quit." I agree, she doesn't fully understand it and it's something she needs to learn.

Like everything else in this show Sora has so much great potential and I hope she can rise up and show the world just how great she is.
