Some of the best games are platformers. Take the super mario series for example. They were the face of gaming for the longest amount of time, but then came Halo, and it took the spotlight for the more recent times...

That's franchize for ya. The more popular the game, the more people want it. For example Edler Scrolls, every elder scroll game was game of the year & platimumized and they only made four. The last game Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was soo good that people demanded to make a Elder Scrolls V. My guess that the graphics would be like Final Fantisy XIII but they never made the next series for along time.

In my opinion, some of the best games are ones that people hate or have absolutely no clue they exist; for example, The Legend of Dragoon, my favourite PS1 game. You probably never heard of it.

Figures... It is an rpg that uses a unique combat system called the "additions" system. It involves pressing the x button at precise moments to give your attack more power. It was deemed so hard to master by so many people that they stopped production after only 1 year. I am owner of one of the surviving games.
