Description
This scene came with DAZ Studio 4. I brought it up, then rendered it out at 3555x3000x32 just to see how long it would take, and how much detail there would be in the image. It took 12 minutes and 14 seconds to render.
It put a 100% load on all 4 CPUs when it did it.
It drove the temp on the CPUs up to 155 degrees F.
The GPU on the video card on the other hand never had a load higher than 7% on it, and usually ran at 0% load.
Doesn't DAZ push off the render work to the GPU/video card? I would think a program that wants to be on a level with Poser and Maya and everyone else would do so...I was surprised when it didn't. Is there a setting I need to set to get it to? Please advise, I don't know what I am doing in 3D rendering yet.

P.S. - I current render at 1366 pixels MAX, and enlarge with separate graphic software.

And your stuff gets pixelated when you do that. I was hoping to avoid that, because I rendered at 1600x900 the first time (my highest screen resolution I can get to with this crappy monitor) and it pixelated pretty bad on the first zoom. Since I know most people have higher res monitors than I do, I did the test at 3555x2000 to see how long it took, and how it looked.

Well all I can tell you is get a Faster processor, way more memory, and good luck paying for it.

Hahaha...8gig of ram should be enough for what I use it for, and I'm not going to find a processor much faster than this one. This is the gaming machine some clients sent me the parts for in payment for all the video work I did for them.

Well all I'm saying the Bigger your canvas the more resources it will use. Hench all the times I kept telling you DAZ CRASHED! it was better when I had DAZ 2.33 ever since then it has been reliant on too many resources, if anything it renders faster, and better, but the trade off is of course the resources used.

Still wish we could sit down side by side and you could walk me through some of this...get me started off on the right foot.

See...that's why I need to be right there...so there's not confusion and delays between mistake and correction.

1). When rendering a large area (which is anything larger then your screen quality), you will push your machine like taking the Enterprise to Warp 9.99999. Fortunately you have a Quad core, which makes that possible, but understand this. The more primitives, props, colors, and lighting you add, the more load you put on your machine.
2). Although your video card is an essential part of producing said render, it is only responsible for the display, not the actual work. You can shut off the screen and DAZ will still eat up your machines resources , so why would you expect the GPU to be affected radically? DAZ is not a totally graphic essential tool, the resources of your machine on the other hand make the major difference.
3). After all the time I known you...I TOLD YOU THIS ALREADY REMEMBER?

2) The reason I expect it to push off some of the work onto the GPU is because there are quite a few programs that will do that, to take advantage of the processing power of modern video cards. I was very surprised to find that DAZ didn't do that, and wondered if there were a setting in it somewhere I needed to turn on to get it to share the load with the GPU.
1) The more you use the bigger the load, sure, that's expected...but I wasn't expecting it to push a quad core as hard as it did. The entire time it was rendering I was watching the temp wondering if I should stop it before it melted down.
3) Nope.

DAZ is designed for the mainstream artist it's is not laden with the usual higher end features for that reason.
