Description
A creative reimagining of Power Rangers using the upcoming 2017 film as a basis (squeeeee!). For this, I took my love for the series and info about the film's story, writing the story as a slightly older/mature story for a teenage audience. I took inspiration from The Breakfast Club, and I admit while writing, the five Rangers became a bit similar to the characters in the great movie. I wanted each character to have a story arc without being melodramatic about it and gave the villains a little bit more character beyond being hammy and evil for the sake of it. Plus, we needed the standard elements of Power Rangers - the suits, the Zords, giant monsters, etc.Related content

A good re-imagining of the movie; I like the inclusion of the eventual ranger replacements from the series... although Kat's character is not my favorite here; I personally am not a fan of those characters... but I'm not well versed in teenage behavior, so I can't complain too much. However, I wonder what would happen if Power Rangers adapts Turbo... that show had problems that audiences didn't like, such as cars and a kid ranger... what would you do?
But my biggest question is... will there be giant explosions in the background of poses; it's not Power Rangers without 10-story pose explosions and explosions all over the place?
I have to say, I would really like to see some other Saban heroes in the Power Rangers movies; I can accept not seeing "Masked Rider," since he was unpopular, but I would like to see Ryan Steele somewhere... maybe as the Gold Ranger or something (I doubt that will happen) and maybe the Big Bad Beetleborgs and the other VR Troopers (both VR Troopers and Big Bad Beetleborgs were popular enough to rival Power Rangers). I doubt it will happen at all... but it would be cool.

This is really good. It's more mature with showing the rangers with their angst in their backstories showing why they come together as team, and the backstory that sets up for future films, especially the Pyscho Rangers. My one problem is Bulk and Skull don't quite sound like the hilarious duo they are known for being and instead sound like typical movie bullies.
While the Machine Empire has a lot potential for a future film with the threat of invading with an army instead of just monsters, what potential is there with Divatox? She's was just a villain who bossed around some henchman and never did anything herself.

I imagined them remaining comical idiots, hence why they end up in the swimming pool whilst trying to humiliate Billy.
The Machine Empire would show up in a sequel. I could imagine Divatox being a servant to Astronema, perhaps mixed with her irritating nephew.

So that makes me picture her reason for working Astronema being because Dark Specter made the decision to annoy her. That is my headcanon as to why he assigned Elgar to work under her.

I am in awe.
Seriously, you did a great job making a more mature, but still faithful, version of the Power Rangers for a modern film adaptation. Fantastic work!

I'm really, really liking your pitch for a modern Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers film series. I really like how you've fused aspects of Mighty Morphin', Zeo and what appears to be lore from the new movie to create something that feels appropriately modern and epic while still feeling like Power Rangers. And it's frankly already a million times better than what's been presented to us in the marketing for the Lionsgate movie, which has gradually lost my interest. Everything about it just screams Chronicle to me, and even if they do incorporate the wider lore of the Power Rangers, it has a lot to live up to now that I've seen you present it as grand, epic, and legitimate as the cosmic settings of Marvel and DC.
I do like that you included the possibility that Rita was the original Green Ranger, based on what we've seen from the movie's trailer and posters, that was a nice touch. There are aspects of the upcoming film that could work really well, but I'll have to see if the film pulls them off well. Fingers crossed!
Also, Kat is a BITCH!! I cannot imagine her ever becoming the Pink Ranger at the end of this first film, but I can imagine she'd get nicer in the sequels. Even though Goldar is killed off at the end, I like it as a call-back to the Rangers' first battle in the series. I also agree with MaddKossack, that even if Rita was prideful, giving the five friends all of the Power Coins seems stupid to me. But that's easily re-written to be a different scenario. Overall, this was a fantastic read!

Thanks for the comment. What a lovely thing to read. I am looking forward to the film a lot. I didn't want Kat to be a stereotypical evil cheerleader, but upset by Kimberly's six-month-absence and doesn't really know how to process it, so she does what any teenager would do by spreading rumours.

Nice work all around! This certainly adds enough depth to Power Rangers while not being a complete "emo YA-novel ripoff" the current film is apparently trying to ape.
There were two slight problems (very minor speedbumps to an otherwise perfect story)
* The first problem is keeping Trini and Zack as the Yellow and Black Rangers, despite the fact the original show already got flak for making the Asian-American the Yellow Ranger, and the African-American the Black Ranger. I know it probably isn't your intent to be offensive, and just wanted to pay as much homage to the original show as possible while still being serious, but considering how much infamy this decision made, I think it can be something that is better off being retweaked than kept in (even if it's simply switching who gets which Ranger suit, or the races of the Trini and Zack, while keeping their character arcs the same as the rest of the script).
* The second problem (which is a bit more of a narrative snaffu than the first problem), is when Rita gives back all of the Power Coins to the Power Rangers, all because Jason challenged her pride. I get Rita is arrogant, but it's clear this version of her is smart enough not to fight all five Power Rangers at their full power AFTER getting beaten up in the museum robbery by them. I think the scene can work better if Rita only gives back ONE of the Power Coins to one of the Rangers so she could challenge them in a one-on-one battle for the fate of the other Rangers (likely Jason, since he's the leader), or if the Power Rangers all fight Rita without their powers: in both cases, it seems Rita is winning the fight, and is about to land a killing blow, but then it's revealed that either the one powered-up Power Ranger, or the five non-powered Power Rangers, were merely trying to distract Rita long enough for Billy to grab the Zeo Crystal, and allowing Zordon to crash the Dragonzord, with the Rangers grabbing the Power Coins in the confusion of the crash.
Otherwise, this is friggin' awesome, and I'd certainly love to see this movie instead of the OTHER Power Rangers movie.

Thanks for reading. It's nice to have such a well thought out response rather than an angry mispelt rant from a whiny person. In response to your concern about Trini and Zack, don't worry. I am well aware of the unintentional implications of MMPR. In the reboot film, Trini and Zack are played by an actress of Mexican descent and a Chinese-Canadian, and went with that as a basis. In the new film, Billy is played by an African-American and Kimberly's new actress is half-Indian. It shows that Saban is well aware of their past blunders and are making up for it with a very multicultured cast.
Yeah, your suggestion for the final fight is a good idea. It was quite late at night when I wrote this section of the treatment and wanted to wrap up the fight. I struggle writing final battles without repeating myself. I imagined Rita as being a lot more smarter than her TV counterpart, but equally as proud to the point of arrogance. My version carries a lot of envy and anger towards Zordon and her former allies and believes to an extent the new generation shouldn't be the Power Rangers, thinking she is stronger than all five of them because she is an original Ranger herself.
I am looking forward a lot to the 2017 film. In fact, it's my most anticipated film of the year. I think the YA emo kids will be underplayed (hopefully), but I would like to see a more adult version of Power Rangers but not a dark gritty version that becomes Batman vs Superman.

Ok, thanks for clarifying you're taking the "race lift" route of the movie, since I couldn't tell on my first read-through.
I think that Rita, while prideful and arrogant, wouldn't fall for the same trick twice (i.e. don't take on all five Power Rangers with all of their powers AFTER getting her ass handed to her in the museum fight), so I think that the best way to handle the second fight with her is to have Jason, the Red Ranger, bait her into a one-on-one fight. Not only would it exploit Rita's pride, but it would also play into her hatred of Zordon, the Red Ranger she utterly despised and eventually betrayed, and through the fight she may accuse Jason of being no different from Zordon - i.e. taking the credit of his teammates while doing none of the actual work. Cue Jason telling Rita that his teammates are doing work, then Rita turning to see the other Power Rangers stealing the Zeo Crystal while she was distracted, and using it to crashland the ship.
That said, since a new trailer just dropped today (www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kIe6U… ), what are your thoughts on the actual movie now?

Still definitely going to see. Goldar looks a like a generic bog monster though.

Well, here's hoping they didn't pull a Suicide Squad, and didn't make a good trailer for a bad film.
But yeah, besides the sketchy CGI during the "big monster fight" moment (and to a lesser extent, making the Zords more like Michael Bay's Transformers instead of a genuine anime/manga/kaiju/tokusatsu appearance), that trailer was a step up. Will wait for word of mouth, but it did make a better second impression.

I disagree about the Zords. You can at least tell they are the Zords, while the Transformers were overcomplex in design.

Admittedly it may be due to the CGI (and honestly, the flashes of the CG-Zords make them pretty overcomplex), but that's just my opinion, and a minor quibble compared to how greatly this trailer improved my opinion compared to the first one.
Again, we'll have to wait and see, but hopefully the new Power Rangers is at least passable instead of outright bad (and it's currently leaning more towards passable than outright bad, so there's hope).

So far, I actually like this! I mean that to say that you managed to stay within the spirit and elements of the original story while also making it modern and giving more background and character to the original mythos! Kudos, man! That's great work!
