Description "Putting absolute faith in my master, no matter the circumstances!"

Happy Thanks Giving to all y'all who celebrate! Have some Red & Mewtwo, PokeSpe style.

Yeah, I'm still on my Mewtwo high and I don't expect it to end anytime soon. I've been using Pokemon Adventures as my main reference for drawing Mewtwo (particularly his facial expressions) and in reading the FR/LG chapter over and over again I remembered how much I loved both Red and Mewtwo. Seriously Pokespe Mewtwo is my favorite Mewtwo, that and he's my favorite character in the whole fucking manga! I think he's the only character I've seen who can wield something like a giant spoon for a weapon and still take seriously. But even though I loved him during my first reading of the chapter (when I was 16 back in early 2010) I never could figure out why I liked Mewtwo in this manga more than any of his other incarnations (mainly the anime variant, my first exposure to Mewtwo as a character rather than just a Pokemon). Now as an adult and reading the chapter over again, I think I now realize why I loved both Mewtwo and Red so much:

Their characterizations and personalities work off each other phenomenally well. Red, due to recent circumstances, has lost a lot of his confidence as well as his will to fight when his friends need him most. Enter Mewtwo, who is not only confident in his own strength but Red's as well. He asks to join Red's side in fighting Team Rocket, shows how much of a cool badass he's become, and flips his shit when he sees Giovanni and reveals that he joined Red because he couldn't stand to see Giovanni misusing Deoxys, another powerful legendary Pokemon like himself, and he knows Red feels the same way. And when Red and Mewtwo actually get to fight Giovanni and Deoxys...just...the amount of faith he puts into Red is almost heartwarming to me, and his devotion to protecting Red from harm just...

I think those of you who've read Pokemon Adventures know what I'm getting at. Those of you who haven't yet read this amazing shit GO DO IT NOW. That's not a recommendation it's a god damn order. If you're a Pokemon fan and haven're read Pokemon Adventures yet what the hell have you been doing your whole life?

Drawn with ink and copic marker.

May update later if I feel it needs something extra.

OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!! I freaking love that saga!!!! It's my all-time favorite, and I too tend to read it over and over again. In fact, that saga is the very reason Red is one of my favorite characters in the manga. I remember the moment Red lost his confidence, and I remember why. It's amazing, isn't it? Mewtwo showing up at the end of Chapter 283, telling Red that it completely understood why he was feeling that way; "Red… I can fully comprehend your current state of mind." And then it asks Red to fight alongside it against Giovanni: "I wish to invite you… to fight by my side."

Seeing as Red's one of the few humans Mewtwo trusts, and remembering everything it went through because of Giovanni, it only makes sense for Red and Mewtwo to work together.

I love how you drew Red and Mewtwo fist-bumping, and I especially love the confident look on Red's face as the two of them walk. Just goes to show how Red was able to regain his confidence before his second battle against Giovanni and Deoxys. Excellent job on the pic!

So far only Movie1 Mewtwo has been shown to have that ability. Even Newtwo from Movie16 doesn't seem to have this power, as there are a few times in the movie where it would have been rather convenient for her to use a memory wipe. However, she never does use this power and instead says, "Forget you ever saw me!" and flies off angrily. So yeah, only Mewtwo from the first anime movie can erase people's memories. :/

EvilMel In reply to FlapjackRiderRX [2013-11-30 22:56:28 +0000 UTC]

Yep, it's a different Mewtwo. Although it may sound like they're trying to retcon shit out, but it's actually heavily implied through dialogue that Ash still remembers the original Mewtwo from Mewtwo Strikes Back and Mewtwo Returns. When Ash sees Newtwo for the first time he (at first) thinks it's the same one he met long ago. The scene goes something like this:

Ash: "Hold on, you're-"

*Newtwo cuts him off*

Newtwo: "I am Mewtwo. Are you alright?"

Iris: "Yeah, we're safe now because of you. Thanks a bunch for saving us!"

Newtwo: *glares angrily* "I wasn't talking to you!"

Iris & Cilan: "Huh?! Then who-?"

Newtwo: "...I was asking Pikachu and Axew if they were alright."

...Something like that. It isn't exact. I can't find the full movie anywhere, but I still recommend watching it if you can find it. Newtwo is actually pretty likable (when she's not being a cold bitch to any given human character).

I dunno it sounds cool but anything attached to ash puts me off these days, I love pokemon and the movies sound amazing Ash just ruins my enjoyment sadly (its fact he ditches things he says is important to him and hes somehow still 10)

EvilMel In reply to FlapjackRiderRX [2013-12-01 02:27:44 +0000 UTC]

While I'm also pissed that he's still 10, he's a pretty decent character in this movie and he's actually kind of involved with the shit that's going on in the plot (rather than some of the other movies where Ash and friends just react to the plot as it happens). The only person I hated in this movie is Cilan. That's not saying a whole lot though, because I already hated Cilan from the few episodes of Best Wishes I bothered to watch. Thankfully he's not even on screen for half of the movie so he's not a big issue. I don't hate Iris but I don't care about her either, so I don't mind her not doing anything for the majority of the movie. Again, Ash is fairly involved with the plot of this movie. In the Pokemon Movies where Ash is actually relevant to the plot he tends to have some great character moments and a he's pretty likable protagonist overall (See Movies 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 & Mewtwo Returns for good examples) whereas if he's really not doing anything and just watching the plot happen he comes off as rather bland and annoying as you've said (like in Movies 6, 9, 10, 11 and so on). Keep in mind that I haven't seen all of the Pokemon movies yet (I still need to see 13, 14 & 15) but believe me when I say Ash is pretty likable in this movie. He also KEEPS HIS FUCKING PROMISES, as he makes quite a few in this movie and holy shit does he do his damnedest to keep them (including the one he made to the original Mewtwo way the fuck back in Mewtwo Returns by not mentioning or telling anyone about him, which is why the original Mewtwo isn't brought up).

That does raise a question though, where did this mewtwo come from? is it a second one those scientests created and team rocket forgot there were two? or did someone else find the research data and make a duplicate of mewtwo?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EvilMel In reply to FlapjackRiderRX [2013-12-01 04:29:10 +0000 UTC]

It's never explained exactly who made Newtwo, she just explains that she was created by humans and has a flashback or two of her blowing up a lab (though to be fair she was being tortured via electrocution before she snapped and blew shit up). It's never stated whether it's Team Rocket again or just some other group. Do keep in mind however that scientists ALWAYS back up information from lab studies, so while they may not have their memories Team Rocket may very well still have the Mewtwo Project files on record somewhere. I just imagine Giovanni looking through some documents and coming across said files and being all "wtf is this Mew cloning and genetic shit it sounds cool as fuck HEY GRUNTS GO FIND A MEW AND BRING BACK SOME DNA SAMPLES OR SOMETHING WE'RE GONNA CLONE THAT SHIT AND MAKE A GOD DAMN SUPER POKEMON IT'LL BE COOL AS HELL!"

...or Team Rocket might not even be involved. Again, the back story they give her is only there to explain why she DIDN'T become a murderous psychopath like the Mewtwo in the first movie. She's actually pretty motherly and kind towards other Pokemon, even if they belong to humans whom she doesn't really like. Although she does sometimes go out of her way to save people she often comes off as a cold bitch and just says something like, "I was only saving the Pokemon, I couldn't care less about you humans. Humans are jerks and I hate all of you. Now if you'll excuse me I gotta fly off and do important plot shit, so pretend you never saw me alright? 'kay thanks bye."

The story focuses mainly on Newtwo trying to help a group of Genesect who are trying to find their home that no longer exists after 300 million years, the leader of which (Red Genesect) keeps attacking her and anything else that looks the slightest bit threatening while mind-controlling the others to do the same. She mostly has issues with the Red one because he keeps attacking everything he sees out of an irrational fear that everything is now their enemy, making it difficult for her to help them. Also, one of the Genesect becomes friends with Ash and it sounds like a small child. I have named this adorable human-sized cyber bug with a laser canon on its back "Dennis". He is the only Genesect whom I've given a nickname, aside from the leader whom I tend to call either "Red Leader" or "Jerkass".

Sounds pretty well written, what did you think of origins then? Mewtwo had an awesome but but far too brief fight with Charizard x, I might be reading too much into it but to me Mewtwo seemed like a frightened child Β in the 4th ova. It lashed out at everyone who got too close, hence why it injured blue/greenb (also origins needed more eps it needed about 8-10 in total)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EvilMel In reply to FlapjackRiderRX [2013-12-01 20:07:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah you're reading into it WAAAAAY the hell too much. Mewtwo was more or less a feral beast in Origins. He's pretty much identical to the way he was portrayed in the RGB Chapter of PokeSpe, minus the big friggin spoon. He's not supposed to be so much a character but rather a super Pokemon to serve as Red's final challenge in completing the Pokedex (until he decides to go find Mew at the very end). Besides, the scene wasn't really about Mewtwo; it was meant to show how powerful the bond between Red and Charizard was, allowing Charizard to Mega Evolve. It was also an advertisement for Pokemon X & Y, though it wasn't too in-your-face about it, more like "LOOK AT HOW AWESOME CHARIZARD IS NOW HE'S A GOD DAMN DRAGON JUST LIKE YOU'VE ALWAYS WANTED!"

In all honesty I would have preferred Pokemon Origins to be a 13 episode series than a 4 episode special, as I would have liked to see the shit they cut out. I should make a rant about that on another day...

I think they did a pretty good job with telling how Mewtwo was made, though the Pokemon Mansion on Cinnabar Island should have been one of those things that needed at least half an episode devoted to it (the Mansion being the first half, Blaine's Gym being the second half). The scene with Mewtwo's silhouette in the fire is ominous and chilling, not to mention visually stunning.

Me too, I remember when I got gold, it was an american copy my cousin from america gave me so I got it before everyone else and I loved it, seeing it animated would be amazing, though if they did an origins version of it they'd need to include the celebi event scene with giovanni to give silver a bit of backstory

If it was an Origins-type remake they'd probably base it off of HG/SS, and including the Celebi event would be a pretty cool thing.

Cliffhanger endings tend to suck. While most of what happened was resolved in the Emerald Chapter (the one directly after FR/LG) they haven't given much of an explanation as to WTF HAPPENED TO MEWTWO until near the end of the DP arc, which still isn't satisfactory. I don't want to hear "Oh, the Pokedex trainers and Mewtwo got in my way and the 'dex holders were turned to stone, so the Mewtwo who was with them got pissed and tried to chase me down. I lost it once I retreated to Sinnoh though." YEAH OK BUT AFTER THAT? WHAT HAPPENED AFTER??? I MEAN HE PROBABLY STILL THINKS RED AND THE OTHERS ARE TRAPPED IN STONE AND HE'S PROBABLY DEPRESSED THAT HIS ONLY FRIENDS ARE PROBABLY DEAD BUT THEY'RE NOT.

I really hope they bring him back in the X & Y arc. Besides, we haven't seen ANY of the gen1 dex holders in action since Emerald, and the last time they even got a cameo was in HG/SS. I WANT MEWTWO TO HAVE A HAPPY ENDING DAMN IT! DX

EvilMel In reply to Mild-Man-Nerd [2013-11-29 06:24:42 +0000 UTC]

Augh, I can never pick my favorite 'Dex holder. It's either Yellow, Gold, Silver, or Dia. I plan on reading the B/W arc soon so that may add yet another favorite to the list. As for my favorite character in the whole series...definitely Mewtwo, hands down. That's why I'm so upset about his story not having any resolution. I really hope he comes back by the end of the X & Y chapter along with Red.

The game's explanation of MegaΒ Evolution states that three things are needed to achieve Mega Evolution: a Pokemon holding its corresponding Mega Stone; a Mega Ring to be worn by the trainer; and a strong bond between the trainer and his/her Pokemon. If Red is given a Mega Ring, goes to Kalos, finds Mewtwo (who happens to have a Mega Stone) and needs to have him Mega Evolve at some point THIS SHIT WOULD BE FUCKING BANANAS AND TOP THE MEWTWO VS DEOXYS FIGHT IN BADASSERY. I don't care how it happens or why this shit just needs to fucking happen. Though as for which Mega Form he'd get...I'd give him X, just to contrast with the new Mewtwo in movie16 using Y. That and I think Mega Mewtwo X would look cooler wielding a big friggin' spoon than Mega Mewtwo Y.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mild-Man-Nerd In reply to EvilMel [2013-11-29 06:33:39 +0000 UTC]

i agree, and since Mewtwo X has stronger physical attack, it would make more since to see him wield the spoon (maybe two spoons. that would be badass)

also, i like mewtwo as a character as well, i just wish i could see him more. what i liked best was the story with him and blaine. Blaine would also be another character i like, and Surge was always interesting

Mild-Man-Nerd In reply to EvilMel [2013-11-29 09:10:11 +0000 UTC]

yes. plus a giant spoon has to be the most original melee weapon ever. also, his movie portrayal was decent.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EvilMel In reply to Mild-Man-Nerd [2013-11-29 22:59:43 +0000 UTC]

I actually don't much care for his portrayal in the English dub of Mewtwo Strikes Back, as they changed him to a stereotypical jerkass villain rather than keeping him a sympathetic one like in the Japanese version. Thankfully the dubbed version of Mewtwo Returns is rather faithful to Mewtwo's Japanese counterpart, and isn't as inconsistent. Here's a side-by-side comparison between the English and Japanese scripts if you're interested:Β www.rigelatin.net/copycat/firs…

And while I was initially disappointed that the old Mewtwo wasn't returning in Movie16 and was instead a different Mewtwo, once I actually sat down and watched the movie I found I rather liked Newtwo's character a lot. I would have preferred Movie1 Mewtwo, but Newtwo was interesting enough on her own to keep my interest in this movie (yeah, Newtwo has a feminine voice, therefore "her").

Now they just need to have the two Mewtwos meet somehow in a future movie and have some shit go down. Maybe they end up not liking each other for some reason and start fighting while Ash, who's friends with both of them, has to stop them from killing each other and make them get along? Also, old Mewtwo gets the X Mega Evolution. I dunno, just a thought.

EvilMel In reply to Mild-Man-Nerd [2013-11-30 03:52:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the new Mewtwo is a girl (sort of I guess). For some reason everyone in the fandom thinks its supposed to be the same Mewtwo and keeps bitching about how Mewtwo is a girl now. They say the stupidest shit like:

"Why don't Ash and Mewtwo remember each other?!"

"Why did they make Mewtwo a girl? He's supposed to be masculine!"

"I don't approve of Mewtwo's gender swap!"

"Is Ash really so stupid that he just forgot about Mewtwo?"

"Mewtwo's a girl my childhood is ruined forever."

And I'm just looking at this shit like

GameFreak officially stated that the Mewtwo in Genecect and the Legend Awakened wasn't the same one from Mewtwo Strikes Back and Mewtwo Returns and is in fact a different Mewtwo. And you know if everyone were bitching about it being a different Mewtwo I'd understand the huge outcry, but NOPE! Everyone's flipping their shit because HE SOUNDS LIKE A FUCKING WOMAN NOW WTF IS THIS SHIT I DON'T LIKE IT ONE BIT! I can't tell if they're being sexist or just plain stupid.

The movie is pretty good btw, though they never explain why Newtwo can Mega Evolve whenever the hell she wants without a Mega Stone. That aside, the story is better than most recent Pokemon movies and the voice acting is actually pretty good. The only thing I can't stand about the move is that Cilan is in it and he's the most annoying piece of shit in existence (thank Arceus he's barely in the movie at all). Another thing that bothered me was that N WAS IN THE END CREDITS BUT HE WASN'T IN THE MOVIE?! DAFUQ HIM JUST BEING INVOLVED WITH THE PLOT WOULD HAVE MADE THE MOVIE 100X BETTER, NEW MEWTWO OR NOT. HELL YOU COULD JUST HAVE ALL THE TRAILERS SAY "N AND MEWTWO ARE IN THE SAME MOVIE AND SHIT HAPPENS" AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THAT SHIT! Missed opportunities... TT_TT

She was created and cloned from Mew like the first one. She, however, never develops a superiority/god complex and doesn't seem to have nearly as much anger anger issues. The first three minutes of the film is her racing with some wild bird Pokemon she calls her friends stating she wants to test her own limits. She's pretty friendly towards other Pokemon, wild or trained. She's kind of a cold bitch when talking to people though, as she doesn't really like them.
