Hmmm, first you need to decide where the light source is coming from. Then you must choose different shades of the same color. Never use the dodge and burn tool to darken or lighten things. Never.

Ah okay. You should use at least three different shades or more of the original base color you used. What I would suggest you try first is soft-shading. Once you've gotten the hang of that, try practicing cell shading. When you can do both, try combining them both in a drawing you see fit.

I straight on HATE it. Whenever someone says that my art looks like it was influenced my anime, I go WTF. Seriously, I could never emulate anime. I was trying to emulate my sister, but then i developed into my own style I suppose.

I know, shit I wanna kill something whenever someone says that. It's sad, apparently anime gets a lot more attention than artists who do different styles.
Yeah Camille is good, but sometimes she frustrates me because she's not doing anything with her talent. It's only now that she's starting to take it seriously. Back then, a few people used/stole her art without permission and she didn't even care. Now she's watermarking her pictures just like I do.... I'm tired of being under her shadow, knowing I'll never be as good as her.
