Description
"The fact is, after I had made a number of human creatures I made a thing-" He hesitated."Yes?" said I.
"It was killed."
"I don't understand," said I; "do you mean to say..."
"It killed the Kanaka - yes. It killed several other things that it caught. We chased it for a couple of days. It only got loose by accident - I never meant it to get away. It wasn't finished. It was purely an experiment. It was a limbless thing with a horrible face that writhed along the ground in a serpentine fashion. It was immensely strong and in infuriating pain, and it traveled in a rolling way like a porpoise swimming. It lurked in the woods for some days, doing mischief to all it came across, until we hunted it, and then it wriggled into the northern part of the island, and we divided the party to close in upon it. Montgomery insisted upon coming with me. The man had a rifle, and when his body was found one of the barrels was curved into the shape of an S, and very nearly bitten through...Montgomery shot the thing... After that I stuck to the ideal of humanity - except for little things."
- H.G Wells, "The Island of Dr. Moreau"
---------------------------------------------------------
Since most of my postings are stuff drawn from 2016, I figure I should pepper in some more recent stuff to keep things fresh.
This bizarre....thing is an interpretation of something that I feel is always overlooked in the book, The Island of Dr. Moreau. It probably isn't even remembered by a whole lot of people who read the story, as it is only mentioned in a single paragraph. While everyone recalls Dr. Moreau's experiments involving turning animals into humanoid creatures, there is a very brief mention of a time he created something he only refers to as a "thing." The description above is all we get of it, and after that, it is never spoken of again. Ever since I read that book, that creature stuck out to me, and I finally decided to try drawing it up. Due to its limbless nature, I always assumed it was originally some kind of serpent, and his claim of it being "unfinished" always made me think it was some butchered mess of a being, due to the invasive, painful techniques involved in his work. Didn't have much to go on, so this is what I came up with. May have gone a little overboard on the exposed flesh and surgical injuries.

the thing killed a man, bent a rifle into an S shape, and nearly bit through the rifle
with its teeth
you can't convince me that it wasn't originally (or at least part) honey badger :3

Could very well be! Spliced together traits from some of the fiercest creatures around! It would explain why it didn't care about its lack of limbs or mangled state of its body!

Oh man. This is great. I might have to give this one a read now. Didn't know it got weird like this.

Thanks, though I wouldn't get my hopes up for super weirdness of this level. The part in the description is literally the only mention of a creature of this caliber. The animal-to-people thing is definitely bizarre in its own rights though, and the "book" is really short so I would still recommend giving it a read!

Yeah, the concept itself is pretty strange and definitely makes me want to read it. I think we've had it on the shelf in my house for a few years now, so I might as well get to it.

Wait- This ain't Rayman!
Joke aside, that thing looks really nasty. The teeth, spine, bandages stitches and his general color kind of make me feel sick. I don't know how this thing could move fast, but i don't want to be near him when he does.
Then again, who does?

I don't think anyone wants to be within a mile of that thing. With the amount of open wounds, crude stitching and exposed flesh, I can't imagine that thing even likes the idea of existing. And thanks!

I wouldn't want to live like that either, so that's a good point.
no problem!
