Description
He was once a holy man, one who believed in the teachings and the word. As a humble servant, he followed the commandments of his faith and used them to guide his path. He made his vows and held to them dearly. Though he practiced restraint and patience, he never faulted others for going separate ways. His actions and his faith were what he focused his concerns on, as every life made their own choices. He could preach and offer help, but if that was not their wish then he would let them be. This all changed, though, when a voice came to him. Deep within his mind he heard its call, and he believed he was at last visited by the one he prayed to. When an offer and promise was made, he did not hesitate. He was a man of faith, and so he would do what was asked of him. Sadly, he did not truly know who had spoken to him. He could not have realized that these words came from no heaven, or at least one that he knew of. In the following days, he found himself invigorated with the fires of righteousness. He would spread the word and spread the ways. He would preach til his lungs gave out and pray until his back ached. He became bolder in his efforts to convert, as he knew that everyone had to be led onto the true path. But the more he tried to pull them in, the harder they fought back. Faced with failure, he chose to believe that he was not pure, that he could not save anyone until he saved himself. His vows became law, and he sought to extinguish the sin that burned his flesh. All the evil must be purged, all the desire must be locked away. He turned on his own flesh as he desperately sought salvation, turning his restraint from mental to physical. In time, his sickness reached an obscene level and he was consumed by the Locks of Chastity. The wretched lurching thing that stalks the streets is what the poor soul became. So disgusted with his own lust and avarice, he has bound his sinful flesh to the point of mutilation. An obscene amount of locks, chains and belts now consume his body, their suffocating hold warping his limbs and bending his bones. This crushing web hampers his movements and causes great pain, but such suffering is necessary for purity. He can hardly walk in this state, more lurching and twitching like some broken puppet. Though he is reduced to this pathetic form, he is a being to be feared and avoided. Infected by this wretched disease, he believes that all are guilty of lust and desire, that humanity has given in to these sinful pleasures. In his twisted mind, he sees himself as a crusader of a righteous cause, that he is one who can truly save these sinners. His victims, however, see more savagery that nobility in his actions. Hunting across the lands, he seeks out those who he finds most guilty of this sin. Due to the similarities his victims share, it is believed he is somehow capable of sensing those in love or those who partake in acts that symbolize it. Couples, lovers and even close friends are targeted by him, as the simple act of holding hands is enough to enrage him.
When he catches the scent, he will head straight to the source, letting no obstacle or person stand in his way. Be it his victims or someone who stands against him, he will unleash pure cruelty on them. The many locks on his body will spit forth binding tendrils that will hold the victim fast. Once contact is made with the victim, they shall detach from the beast and will wrap into a tightening band. Once snugly affixed, they shall begin to tighten at a steady pace. It doesn't matter if they are wrapped around a limb, torso or head, they shall just get tighter and tighter. This is meant to subdue the sinner and keep them from indulging in their desires, but unfortunately these binds do not know when to stop. Eventually they will get so tight that they can sever blood flow and crush bone. It doesn't matter if this leaves the victim mutilated or dead, he shall see this as a cleansing of the soul. However, this may not be the end to his assault. Any form of struggle during the encounter will be seen as resistance, convincing him that harsher methods will be needed to purge this evil. Those who fight back are clearly in too deep and do not know what they are doing, so he must do more to fix them. More bonds may be administered, trapping victims in a crushing cocoon. If the victim fights back too much, than he shall deem that they too controlled by their desires to be saved, so he shall physically remove the evil. His sharp claws will go straight for the source of this lust, as cutting out these sinful parts shall ensure that the victim will never trespass again. However, his pained movements and horrid temper do not make him a precise surgeon, so he often shreds these poor souls into meat. Once his victims are mutilated or killed, he will immediately seek out his next target.
The laws must be upheld. The sinners must be taught. The great crusade must continue....

Oddly enough, I think the virtue of "no naughty" turned out way more naughty than the sin of "yes naughty" It is pretty grotesque. I don't think it is bad enough to mark it mature, but if others disagree I will change that.
And well, that is it! After all this time, the last virtue and the last of the 14. Crazy to think that I created all these weirdos and this is the final one. At this point I would say it is time to figure out the next big drawing set, but I think that stage won't last very long. Already have one idea, and I am sure I will read some random thing somewhere and suddenly decide that has to be the next big thing. Who knows!
But I hope you guys enjoyed the Artifacts of Sin and the Plagues of Virtue! Not the most original concept, but it was fun!

It's so baffling to me how everything you create looks this good. I love how you make them entirely recognisable feature-wise; in this case I can see the crab-like claws, the parts that are some sort of device etc- but they're all still completely alien looking features!

Thank you so much! I am not quite sure how I do it myself! At least for these guys, I tried to take something that was associated with each virtue and then crank it up to an extreme level.

You know, I always thought of these entities as slumbering beings that awoke and were unleashed upon the earth when a historically known event that results in loss of life has occurred. Said entity prowls the area, their activity levels causing some to become an urban legend at best, and a feared threat no one knows how to deal with at worst. As for events, I thought of some examples. For example, Pride's Mirror may have arisen in the wake of the Holocaust, and the Parasites of Kindness may have arisen in the wake of Typhoid Mary's second arrest.

An interesting idea! Are you thinking that these entities are some form of vengeance or repercussion for humanity's actions? Like the Virtues being sent down to "fix" things when atrocities occur, but they wind up causing more misery due to their extreme ways?

I'd imagine both the sins and the virtues being the repercussions of events, manifesting from large amounts of latent psychic energy left behind by the dead.

So would there be a difference between events that summon Virtues versus events that summon Sins? Or would it just be a random chance of which end of the spectrum gets unleashed?

Most of the time I draw the picture first with a few ideas on a backstory, and then I flesh it out later. Pretty much anytime I post these things, I spend an hour or two writing the backstory right then and there.
And I feel the same too! A world where the Sins and Virtues both existed would be quite terrifying! And thanks!

And so ends the tales of the Plagues of Virtue...but worry not for these poor souls and their victims, friends...
For DEATH...is only the beginning...or is it? Who knows...
Dude! This. Was. AWESOME!!! Can’t wait to see what the new idea might be! Horsemen? Archangels? Personifications of Levels from Dante’s Divine Comedy? The possibilities are ENDLESS!
...hints, please? If I may ask?

Thanks! I am happy to hear you enjoyed this series! As for the next one, I have not fully settled on one yet, but I got some ideas. Even if I do pick one, it will be a good long while before they are actually made and then see the light of day. As of right now, my current project idea consists of ten individuals, though I am still trying to figure out my own special twist or theme I will give them. I will say that these fellows would be pretty chummy with the Virtues!

Ten individuals who get chummy with the Virtues...the Ten Commandments, perhaps? Oh yeah...this is gonna be great! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Nope, it is not the commandments, though they do come from the same story as these beings!

Hmm...the only other thing I can think of related to “10” is the 10 plagues of Egypt...
Hope I’m not annoying you by continuously guessing...if so, please let me know and I will gladly stop...

No worries! Also you guessed right! It isn't fully set in stone, but that is the current idea I am playing with.

The Ten Plagues...sounds like a rather interesting concept. Either way, I CAN’T WAIT to see what you come up with next...you have a real talent for making such gorgeously gruesome creatures. Keep up the good work!
