Description The Phoenix is a plant-based entity that lives in the plains and forests. It stands tall on its root system and holds out its leaf-covered arms to absorb sunlight. During this stage, its leaves and petals are a fiery red, like a living flame on the plains. It is aware and will respond to other life forms. It emits a flute-like call during the growing season, possibly communicating with others of its kind. When the dry season comes, the plains are highly flammable, and any sort of spark will ignite it into a blazing inferno. Unable to move, the Phoenix will be consumed by the flames, screaming a horrifying death cry as it burns. Though heartbreaking and sad, this is a crucial part of their life cycle, as the intense flames will activate the seeds contained in the Phoenix's chest. Once the flames die down and the Phoenix is ash, the seeds will disperse and grow new Phoenixes as the plains grow back with it.

During their death, a Phoenix will "cry" a kind of nectar. This nectar has amazing healing properties, being able to stop nearly any disease. Unfortunately, it can only be obtained as a Phoenix dies, and the burning inferno is quick to engulf any who are foolish enough to try.

It is hard to show how proud I am of this drawing. As my creature binge continues, I wanted to do the Phoenix, but wanted to do something different. My FW knowledge helped here, as certain prairies and grasslands will actually benefit from burning (I have participated once with control-burning a field) and quickly regrow. Some plant species require intense heat in order to seed, like the Jack pine. So I decided that the Phoenix should be a plant that looks like a bird, and its story wrote itself.

Unfortunately not, the soil and growing conditions they require is incredibly precise. Keeping conditions just right for a Phoenix to properly grow is incredibly difficult and often fails.
