It wasn't fair. After all that time, after all it had gone through. An eternity wriggling through the cosmos, waiting for their chance to be reborn. To feed upon the light and detritus, as they hid from the great leviathans that drifted across oblivion. All that living, all that hardship. Hoping for the day their destiny would come to light, and they would at last be able to join the others as they flew through the heavens. There had been such excitement when their body had shown the signs, revealing that the time had at last come. They crafted their cocoon in glee, and buried themselves in deep to let the grand metamorphosis take place. The decades passed, and their body melted and reformed again and again, slowly building to their true form. The wait was so long, but the day was almost there. They could feel their body finally taking shape, creating the godly form they had yearned for throughout the centuries. They needed this, they had earned this, but fate turned cruel.

The wretched beast that slunk into their burrow knew nothing of what it had found. Its meager brain saw no godliness, only food. Sealed away and half-formed, they could only scream in silence and watch helplessly as the greedy fangs bore down on their cocoon. They did not pierce the first time, but the beast refused to quit. It tried again and again, as they begged for it to give up and leave. Their pleas did nothing, as the fangs at last tore through the cocoon and violated this sacred ceremony. The ignorant creature was clueless to what it had done, its last thoughts no doubt confusion as the blast of released energy turned it to dust. Its greed annihilated it within seconds, but the damage had already been done. The cocoon was ruined, the metamorphosis aborted. What slid from the wreckage was something half-formed and furious. After all these years, all they were left with was a ruined body and broken wings. No beauty, no elegance, just pain and misery. Seeing their twisted form, they could only rage and seethe, but it wasn't enough. Smashing mere rocks and screaming into the abyss did little to soothe their anger, so they began to drift. Floating through the cosmos, they annihilate anything that cross their path. Driven by bitterness and despair, the sight of those whole and happy drive it mad. They must know what they suffered, they must feel what it is like to be robbed. So steeped in this bitterness, that their broken glittering wings emanate an aura of aberration and chaos. Anything that enters its presence will face growing abnormalities and anomalies, as order and averages veer wildly into the realm of accidents and freak occurrences. Everything around it will feel that betrayal, to see as destiny abandons them. How long their vengeance will last is unknown, but all should know that it won't be short. They waited for centuries to attain their dream, so they will easily wait a few more to ensure others do not...
