Description

No one is really sure how it started, but the end result is very much known. Some believe that it first started out as the pet of a witch. After all, the gut and crop contents of a cockatrice are highly valued as ingredients for potion making, so why not have one on hand? They also like to eat poisonous plants and animals, other common items for the cauldron, so they know how to find them. Surely a witch could see the use of these creatures, and decided to keep one as a pet. While this species is known for brewing horrible things in its crop, it is not fully immune to every noxious material. If one were to stay at the side of a witch for years, then they would be exposed to a wide variety of potent vapors and mutagenic fluids. Even if the witch was careful and took protective measures, this probably wasn't the same for the cockatrice. Constant exposure could have changed this poor creature, and its deteriorating state would have triggered this madness. Did it escape its master and vanish into the wilderness, or did it turn on its old friend and kill them in a frenzy? No one is really sure, and no one has come forth to claim ownership of this beast. The other theory is that the cockatrice was no pet, it was just drawn to the lair of a witch by the smell of toxic food. Presented with a plethora of tasty poisons and brews, it sought to claim this bounty for its self. The cockatrice killed the witch who owned all this and then chowed down on her collection of ingredients. Perhaps it even guzzled down the contents of the cauldron too, believing it to be extra potent fuel. This combination of bizarre foods and exotic ingredients mutated the beast and gave it a unique taste. Regardless if this monster was a pet or an intruder, there is no denying the monstrosity that haunts the land now. It has grown a unique taste, and it will not let anyone get in the way of its hunger.

This menace is known as "The Craw," and it is the bane of any witch, alchemist or apothecary. It has developed a hunger for strange ingredients and potent chemicals, happily devouring substances that should easily kill it. It is unknown what smell or sign it looks for to locate these stashes, but it has shown to be frighteningly efficient in locating these items. While it can satiate some of this hunger by finding these ingredients in the wild, it knows all too well that there are beings out there that hoard it in piles. Best to get your fill by one of these stashes, rather then waste time picking at the meager offerings the land has. The only thing the wild has to offer are tasty frogs and toads, which is one of The Craw's favorite foods. Regardless, when it wants to fuel up, it hunts down an alchemist or witch and makes its move. It will attack with unrelenting ferocity and frightening speed, smashing into the hut or dwelling like a battering ram. Its hooked talons and malformed beak easily rip through flesh and often tear unsuspecting victims to pieces. Once the occupant is slain, the collection of bottles, jars and boxes are ripe for the taking. It will smash everything open and devour every scrap it can. The ingredients are sent to its swollen crop and it happily lurches off to rest and digest.

Due to its bizarre diet and unnatural aggression, numerous bounties have been placed on the head of The Craw. Those offering the money are covens or alchemist circles, those who seek to end this pillaging and slaughter. They cannot work while this menace breathes, so they either send their own fighters or hire professionals. The number of folk going out to slay The Craw, though, have started to drop. Fewer folk give these bounty posters a second glance, and members of these potion-making communities beg not to be sent. Despite all the attempts, this beast still lives, and those who sought its head are no longer on this earth. It seems this cockatrice is no ordinary animal now, and it is all thanks to that swollen crop and its bizarre diet. Due to the brews and potions it has consumed, its crop has transformed into a crude cauldron of sorts. All the substances it eats fall into this noxious pouch and are mixed into some primordial magic. What it barfs now is not toxic vomit, but gooey spells and hex-laced fluids. Those who have survived or witnessed these fights claim that this beast can not only spew potion magic like a living wand, but seems to have some control over these projectiles. What sprays from its maw can vary, as it can switch up its magic by giving its crop a wretched churn. So far, people have witnessed it puke up gobs of explosive acid, slimy magic missiles, arcane fire, clouds of stinging poison, liquid curse and the occasional confused familiar. However, it has one specific fluid that it seems to enjoy using the most. When fighting, it likes to spew forth a bubbling brew onto its attackers, and douse them with a horrible hex. Those whose flesh is touched by this fluid are turned into frogs, with powerful witches and brave warriors being reduced to useless amphibians. This hex is not a particularly powerful one, as it usually wears off in a few minutes. Witches use this one often to humiliate foes or silence rowdy customers. It is perfectly harmless, so most folk don't worry too....hold up, what was that creature's favorite food again?

Another deviant, much like the Bramble King. Because apparently just making a species isn't enough. Figured this horrid witch gut monster would be most fitting for Halloween. Hunt it, fight it and use its drops to make some killer wands.
