Description
The alien race known as the R-D-Es (Radiation Dependent Entities) is a species that can only survive in environments that have high amounts of radiation. Without proper amounts of radiation, their bodies deteriorate and crumble to dust. The radiation also seems to be their food source, as they do not require food or drink. Their true bodies are thin and lanky, with their limbs having multiple joints. Many have referred to their body type to be like "four-legged spiders." But the appearance that many know them as is when they are in their bulky radiation suits. These suits are much larger and restrictive then their true bodies, forcing their jointed limbs into a humanoid form. The suits are heavily armored and built much like a tank. Large packs strapped to their suits constantly fill the suit with lethal amounts of radiation, keeping the R-D-E inside alive. These suits are deployed when the R-D-Es have to be environments without the proper amount of radiation. Thus, the suits are reinforced and armored to keep the radiation inside, and prevent it from leaking out. They operate these suits with a mix of physical controls and mental link ups, allowing them to steer the heavy armor. Despite all these controls, the suits are very slow and awkward, almost waddling from place to place. Though many find this silly looking, the containment suits they steer are far from harmless. A port on the front of their suit is capable of opening, bleeding off massive amounts of radiation. Specialized hands that can be swapped onto the suit arms have nozzles that release thin blasts of concentrated radiation. With these two simple tools, they can clear rooms of enemies with a radioactive burst, frying flesh right off the bone. And due to their containment design, the suits are impervious to many handheld weapons, with bullets and lasers barely scratching the armor. Only explosives and heavy weaponry can breach their suits, which would make it seem easy since they move so slow. But breaching an R-D-E suit is not advised, as all the radiation inside will burst out. The reactors in their packs can detonate when heavily damaged, and can wipe out a city with ease. R-D-Es are aware that their destruction would cause the deaths of thousands, and often use it to their advantage, walking right through enemy forces, knowing that they dare not fire.R-D-Es travel through space on insect-like vessels that are powered by nuclear reactors. The insides of these ships are heavily irradiated, so that the R-D-Es can move about them without their suits. With this, their interior design is based around their lanky, climbing figures, having narrow corridors, tall shafts and little to no even ground. They clamber through their ships like insects, latching onto walls and ceilings, and often don't differentiate between them. This gives them an advantage in space combat, as they do not require gravity generators and they can easily traverse their ships when it maneuvers through all the planes of space. Their weaponry is mainly atomic missiles that are slow but extremely powerful. The ship themselves is often used to attack, ramming into other ships and piercing the hulls with proboscis-like drills. Once pierced, the R-D-Es will pump in radiation and kill all within. Those who take on R-D-Es in space combat must keep their distance, as even when they defeat them, their ships can create a massive explosion that can take the victors with them.
As a species on the Galactic Council, R-D-Es are despised by a majority of species. They are greedy creatures that are constantly looking for new sources of radiation producing substances, as well as new planets to inhabit. They are often called "Space Vultures" by other races, as the R-D-Es populate dying planets that sterilized by radiation and solar flares. They can also inhabit worlds that were lost due to atomic warfare, and this causes issues. Since nuclear war can clean a world of its original inhabitants and make room for R-D-Es, this species often tries to sabotage other sentient species that are young to the universe. They will try to incite incidents that cause reactor explosions or nuclear war, sending in agents and other ally species to set the machine in motion. Once the species wipes itself out, the R-D-Es will go to the Galactic Council and ask if they can take the new world. With no evidence of their actions, the Council can only accept and let the species take the spoils. After all, they did it to themselves, right?
R-D-Es are quickly gaining enemies on the Galactic Council, but they are making up for it by getting allies. Other greedy species that want to harvest young planets or civilizations will team up with them, and they even have the help of a high council member, Gravus Dark. With this team up, the R-D-Es will continue to be a menace until evidence can be gathered of their actions and the council can act.

God I love these guys. Had to draw them again.

This is the best concept for an alien species that wants to invade other worlds that I've ever heard.

They are a really cool concept for an alien race.

Thanks! I think they are my favorites out of all the aliens I have made. Probably because I think biohazard suits are so cool.

The Biohazard suits definitely make them more intimidating. But also, I can't think of any other race/species that thrives on radiation, which I think is pretty cool.

What do you use to draw? Your writing is amazing, but the art tends to be a bit shaky and unappealing to the eye at times, though it does get the point across! Do you use pen or marker? That would excuse the shakiness, as it's hard to master and you can't erase what you've drawn.

The final product is outlined in Sharpie pen, but it is all drawn in pencil first. I used to do fully pencil, but I had a hard time cleaning up the rough designs and getting things to stand out. The pencil outline is meant to help so that I don't botch it up with the pen, but I still muck it up from time to time. Hands aren't all that steady.

Have you considered looking into softer-leaded pencils? (4B,6B, etc) They make nice dark lines(6B especially), so it's great to sketch in a harder pencil (2 HB) and then go over with a darker one.

I might have to look into that. I know absolutely zero about pencils and other art supplies. I draw with computer paper and mechanical pencil. I will have to look into those and see how those work for me. Thanks!
