Description
Tales tell of a twisted band of abominations that roam the land, spreading their vile songs to infest towns and corrupt souls. Wherever this horrid group strikes, death and destruction are soon to follow. Though they are monstrous creatures now, the members of this foul band were actually once human. The stories say that they were a traveling band that went from town to town in order to perform and entertain. In truth, though, they were nothing more than talented thieves, using their performances to distract the people while they robbed them blind. Their tricks and charm were legendary, as they fooled entire crowds into believing them as nothing more than simple musicians, even as their infamy grew with each heist. For years they looted and robbed, gaining both treasure and enemies with each passing day. Many wondered if their spree would ever stop, if they would finally call it quits or if the gallows would bring an end to their careers. No one could have predicted the true fate of this infamous band. During a heist on a wealthy collector, the band of thieves happened to snag a rather strange music box in their haul. They knew not what it was, only that it looked expensive and that it would fetch a fair price. Little did they know that it was a Cantatio Daemonum, a vessel for the infernal Voices. They only realized this when they returned to camp, and one of the members opened the box. Brought forth by the screeching tune of the device, the Voices came forth and offered the gathered musicians a single wish. Still celebrating from their recent victory, the band did not realize the danger of this offer and plunged ahead recklessly. Since they enjoyed their life of music and trickery, they wished that they could live this life forever, and the Voices began to sing. At first the musicians believed the song would give them immortality, but it unfortunately brought much more with it. The music began to warp their flesh and tear at their minds. Their bodies were mangled and twisted as the song altered their sheer existence. In the end, the members emerged as horrid abominations, their human bodies and minds forever lost. Infused with infernal powers, they could indeed now live the life of music and thievery forever, but not in the way they had imagined. They would not be stealing gold and jewels from the gullible, but instead blood and souls from the living.Writhem is a member of this band, and he serves as the tempo keeper for their twisted performances. Though he does not create music and songs like the others, the rhythmic ticking of his body acts as his instrument. Every movement of his follows his set tempo, which he speeds up and slows down according to the situation. These very same movements and ticks are what activate his abilities. By moving his hands in a rhythmic metronome-like fashion, he can entrance those who watch these hypnotic arcs. Those caught by this power will be become frozen, unable to move a muscle as long as their eyes are on him. This leaves his victims powerless and helpless, and he takes this opportunity to cut them down. Many parts of his body are razor sharp, and his fingers are just as deadly as an assassin's blade. While his prey is entranced, he will use precise cuts and slashes to disable them and leave behind a bloody mess. Though his hypnotic movements and bladed limbs make him a deadly opponent, he still has one other trick up his sleeve. When faced with tough opponents or resistant prey, he will swing his "head" and "neck" in sync with his arms. When he turns his whole body into a living metronome, he creates a field of influence that locks prey into his tempo. Those who hear the infernal ticking of his head will be forced to obey his rhythm, making it impossible for them to perform any action off beat. Hearts will beat with the rhythm, and victims need to be sure to breath in sync with the tempo or face asphyxiation. Any movements or actions that violate the beat will fail to occur, causing body and limb to remain frozen no matter how hard someone tries. Those who are not good at keeping with the rhythm will become useless on the battlefield, and Writhem's power has easily turned battle-hardened warriors into bumbling fools. To further torment prey, he can speed up and slow down this pace at will, which does the same to the enemy's movements. Ramping up his pace to rapid speeds will quickly tire out foes, and those with weakened hearts may not be able to survive the brutal stress. By slowing down his tempo, he can make enemies move in slow, clunky motions, which makes them easy targets to other band members.
Writhem is much like the rigid, mechanical pace that his body creates, as he is a very strict and serious being. He is precise with everything that he does, and is easily angered by those who are sloppy or are off beat. Every action of his follows his tempo, and he expects others to follow it as well. When it comes to their hunts and heists, Writhem prefers straightforward plans and those that are quick and efficient. He despises wasted time and cannot stand when band members go off book. His nature has made him the right-hand man to Malstro, serving as a secondary leader and conductor of the band. Though all the members will work with him and mostly follow his orders, a good chunk of them will always grumble and gripe when he is in charge. Agored and Miserel are the main ones who will complain about his commands, as they find no fun in a rigid, forced performance. In turn, Writhem is constantly annoyed with them, as they often run off to find prey to torment and will goof off with silly tunes and songs that lack any kind of class or control.
While he is indeed a member of the demonic band, there is something odd about Writhem's presence. The first thing is his purely mechanical body, which lacks any flesh, bone or skin. This seems incredibly bizarre compared to the organic forms of his fellow musicians. Second is the fact that the legends claim that the supposed band that was warped by the Voices only had six members. No matter how far back they follow this ancient tale, there has been no evidence of a seventh member. This, combined with his unnatural body, has made people wonder about his origins. Was he an actual member of the original band, or did he show up after the Voices mangled them? If he did show up later, where did he come from? Why has he joined this infernal group? Some believe he was constructed by Malstro himself, as he needed a trustworthy assistant to help tame the rowdy band. The problem with this theory is that Malstro has yet to confess to this, and all the other band members act like Writhem has been there the whole time. The other possibility is that he was made by the Voices, and secretly implanted into the orchestra without their knowing. This is equally puzzling, as no one knows why the Voices would have a need for such a being. Why would they embed this automaton into the demonic band? Is he meant to aid in their atrocities, or keep watch over these unhinged abominations?

The fact that this guy essentially works by waggling his dick around is fucking amazing. What's more, his backstory is quite interesting - even this band of demons has its weird mysteries.

Huh! Never really thought of it that way! I always just pictured it as his head just pivoting on a really long neck. But now that you mentioned it, that is pretty weird!
Yep, there are some odd things with the demonic band, even to the point where the members don't realize it themselves.
