Because the creators of the game and Karen Traviss themselves said he was not, they said he was "MIA" (misisng in action" not dead. They say they want to keep things like this if they want to make a sequel to the game later. So karen was not allowed to reveal what happened really in her books, because the creators of the game want to do that themselves in a future game, if they do one.
