Falks Timsaving tip> Take parts from one (or more) of the models that you want destroyed and skatter it about the scene. Do the render with just the ships n armor in place.
Figure where you want to missiles comming n going in the finished render. Then do a render of three or so missiles posed at different view angles, nuetral background (like black for space)
Cut the BG out of the finished render, add thrust to the missiles. Then copy n paste them (adjusting size appropriatly) wherever you had planned. Add the smoke n fire from the launchers to suite.
Add a good explosion on top of the skattered vehical and delete out areas of blast to show parts through it (using a delete brush with about 30 to 50% opacity)
You can make massive missile barrages with little effort this way. And good destruction of some vehicals. I usually use the cloning tool to add BG over some of the skattered parts to make them look jagged and blasted away from the body....
For beam weapons, I do One of each type on an opaque BG, usually Straight Vertical or Horizontal. Then cut n paste n rotate n scale it to fit where needed. You just add some slight paintbrush FXs for a glow around the muzzle or target and an explosive hit and you got a cool battle scene.
Me, I tend to go overboard on the carnage. But it is a personal taste thing
Hope that helps save time n effort. Love to see your work amigo

Hehe, I used to play CnC3 last year, and I played on the multiplayer server thingies, which was fun, but after a while my win rate started going down cause I was always picking fights with the super-ΓΌber guys that played all day and all night and knew all the maps etc. so finally no one wanted to team with me cause my win to loss ratio was really low
Good games though, I used to love the old CnC games back when, and the red alert games... I never really played any of the 'spin offs' like the 3d fps (was that it?) or any of those though.
