Description
EDIT 1/16/14: Almost FIVE YEARS since I've uploaded this.. I've finally hit 1k faves! Hope it's been helpful!
Just a note, I've noticed some pictures of those who have done the tutorial and I'm seeing a pattern in accidentally having the fur go the wrong way on the ears. Make sure you get the fur fibers running toward the *pointed end* of the ear.. not toward the base. The pointy end of your ear should be seam ripped thus giving it a nice fluffy look at the ends!

Just wondering:
You said you used bobby pins right? Did you happen to glue apart of the pin onto the ears? I'm not quite sure how you used them. Sorry! I feel stupid for asking, now.

Awww, no question is stupid! I'm always willing to help~
I used three hair pins: one at the top arch of the ear and one on each side. The top pin is inserted into my wig horizontally while the two on the sides keep my ear stuck to my head vertically. Imagine a clock face with pins sewn at 9, 12, and 3. That's pretty much how they're attached on the curved part of the ear.
The round, bent part of the hair pins are sewn on the ear with black thread. I wrapped the thread around quite a few times before tying a knot. The pins still manage to move around when sewn on like this, but it holds up well enough!
Good luck~

great tutorial. its a great help for my friend and I's cosplay for youji and natsuo.
cheers!
PS. instead if having to cut teh fur with sissors or a seam ripper i found it helpful to use an exacto knife and cut it along the back so you can use the fur that is left is still good to use for multiple pairs of ears or your tail. ^_^ <3 ~apy

exailious In reply to apynip [2009-06-09 21:52:08 +0000 UTC]
I had a rotary cutter that I originally tried cutting the back with, but the problem I ran into was cutting the extra fur fibers that give it a fluffy look.. Scissors did the same, which is why I used the seam ripper -nodnod- Plus they're only about two bucks at the store and no worries about slicing your fingers ^__~ heh..

ah. yes true. ^_^ are there any hints on how many bobby pins to sew onto teh ears? or do combs work better? or those little weft/ extention combs?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
exailious In reply to apynip [2009-06-13 02:40:17 +0000 UTC]
I used three per ear. I originally thought about combs but the sides of the ear would stick up. Using a pin at the top and one on each side keeps the ear firmly on my head. So as long as you have a solution that keeps the ear against your head you're golden -nod-

the tail was just a tube of the craft fur sewn inside out with a sewing machine.. and then I flipped it out and stuffed it. Nothing special there.

Excellent tutorial ^^
Got a question. What would you do if you wanted two colored ears (as in, striped)?
I'm needing to do that (possibly) for one of my upcoming cosplays, and I was wondering if you had any tips?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
exailious In reply to blackcat-girl [2009-04-28 15:51:45 +0000 UTC]
Striped? Well, I don't think I've seen striped craft fur, but you can do what I know some others have done. Buy white craft fur and then dye it. Using a hair coloring kit, you can paint in the stripes with dye as you would normally dye hair. May just work out for you!
