This drawing came out of nowhere. I randomly started doodling and over the course of a few days the sketch developed into this.She's a crossbreed between some fey and a tartegian devil. Might be a slave dancer, or a member of nobility, hard to say. The sure thing is that she's one incredibly strong creature, both physically and mentally.
Those random thingies are supposed to be jewelry. There's very little that I'm not happy with, I just drew and enjoyed it and didn't worry about completing the pic or screwing up at all.
Time taken: lots and lots
Tools: Mecha 0.3, 2B, 5B pencils and kneaded eraser

Thanks for the great comments you gave. I don't really pay much attention to dA nowadays as you can notice from me replying this late, but it still made me feel better that someone had actually looked at something I drew once and took the time to write an actual comment on them.
This pic is actually one of the only ones in my gallery that I can still look at without instantly saying "Lolwow I sure used to be bad at drawing." I'd even go as far as say it remains one of my favorites out of everything I've drawn up to date.
Of course, my drawing style is wholly anime nowadays so it's hard to compare and heck I'm not even uploading anything am I...

i really don't think you were ever bad at drawing. im not trying to brown nose but really, i looked through your gallery and man, you had such a strong sense for anatomy. its not something people usually start out with, and its one of the things that attracted me to your work in the first place. ah, but artists will always be their own worst critic, eh?

I think it's a REALLY good drawing. To do something freehand with this much detail and such great shading is pretty impressive. I especially like how the fabric of her clothes seem to just flow. Nicely done.

Your grasp on detail, anatomy and posture has practicaly exploded. This stuff is so much friggen better than the stuff you started with. Amazing rendition of a saytre demongogue thingy!

It can be pretty unsettling when you look back on your artwork. I always do at stuff I did last year, that at the time thought was awesome, but now hate!
Your progression has skyrocketed though, like inhumanely fast. I'm happy to be watching it happen.

It is. I could've never imagined I'd improve so much so quickly. But of course I'll have to improve a lot more still to be even nearly satisfied with my skills.

Yeah, I agree with that too comparing to myself of coarse. I too feel that I've got helluva long way to go before I feel that I can take my artwork anyware commercialy, and even longer still till I get anywere good with it. No need to worry though, if we keep at it we'll surely make it -_^

That's what I'm trying to do, but there'll always be something on the side that you'll have to do to bring in a decent income. That and it'll be drawing stuff for other people, so it won't be as fullfilling as doing your own stuff.
Still, drawing is drawing!

I'm not really trying because I don't believe it'll be possible, and living in this country doesn't help one bit. It's fairly impossible to get any money from drawing here in Finland because only modern art sells here.

Australia isn't much diffirent, but you simply have to think about what field of art you specficaly want to work in, and it dosn't necisarily have to be the fine arts.
So, I'm instead aiming to be a conceptual designer. I design characters and illustrate work for games, movies, cartoons, whoever hires me. I might even get conscripted into a design house for a big games company and secure myself finacialy as I work on a variety of titles.
If you can think of ways that artists can work, no matter how far off from your original vision, you can usuualy come up with a solution for improvement. And even if that dosn't work, there's alwas the option of moveing! Lots of people have told me I should pack my bags and head for Japan, but I know better, at least with how my skills stand at the momment. But who knows? I might get the guts and just do it -_^

Being a conceptual designer would be nice but the chance of doing that around here is really small. We don't exactly have a lot of companies that need conceptual designers...
Of course moving to another country could solve the problem but I don't think I have the guts to do that 
Anyway I'm pretty much sure that art will always be limited to my leisure time, I'll probably just go and study Maths and Physics and maybe Chemistry too in a university since I'm kinda good at those and I also like them.

Well I see what you mean, and yeah, it always helps to have a back-up plan. I'm majoring in Maths Englis and Sociology in college at the momment so that when it comes to University, if my Arts degree dosn't give way to anything I can always fall back on those. Not to mention it makes essays a sinch.

Practical. I always hate writing essays, even though I always get good or above average grades from them. But it's a pain nonetheless.

Somethin we all gotta do. If you can make it fun and interesting, it dosn't seem like such a pain, but my old and senile teachers don't apreciate the enthusiastic approach. Basically, it's agree with thier assumptions, follow the criteria to the bone or I can just kiss my assesment goodbye and shrivvle up into an unwanted husk. Fair world in schooling these days huh?
