Description
Finally mostly settled on a design for Mellarius' humanoid form.About Mellarius' fighting style:
Their main powers revolve around shadows and ice, with some light-based abilities, and their ability to shape-shift. They can manifest a material which resembles ferrofluid using the moisture in the air along with their light-manipulation, which they can both weaponize and use as means of movement (such as by manifesting platforms or simple weapons).
Their fighting style revolves around mostly melee combat, but may involve manifested weapons when more complex tactics are needed. Mellarius' melee fighting style is very bestial in nature, relying heavily on their own body-- hands, claws, tail, teeth, and hooves-- yet is still highly refined and calculated, with fluid movements and precise but powerful hits. When they move during battle, it has been described as "watching the Beauty's Beast pirouette." In close-combat, Mellarius is a hybrid fighter using both strength and finesse, and relies mostly on their own mass and range of motion to land hits, as they are not incredibly fast. Mellarius is also known to exploit environmental hazards in combat when in their home territory, where they are familiar with their surroundings and often capable of avoiding the traps while luring others into them. They are cunning, and when instigating a fight, will often stalk and camp near their target long before actually striking. They will plan a fight in advance if they are aware of their opponent's usual tactics, and will use whatever tools they have to gain an advantage and psych out their opponent, before simply going all-in and hitting them with all their power.
This technique has two major weaknesses: Firstly, if Mellarius is not familiar with their enemy before going into a battle, they will rely on a few generalized tactics to stun and weaken an opponent before diving in for the actual combat. However, if the opponent does not fall for any of these tactics or is resistant to the methods used, Mellarius may be at a disadvantage when they do finally enter actual combat, as their lack of speed does not allow them to repeatedly bash an opponent who is still fully on their feet. Secondly, once Mellarius has exploited all environmental hazards and/or traps and tools they brought with them, and enters full/"true" combat, their only strategy is to repeatedly slam the opponent with heavy blows to keep them staggered and deal damage. This can be incredibly devastating if the opponent does become locked into Mellarius' cycle of heavy blow, stagger, recharge, repeat. However, if the opponent is able to break this cycle, either by avoiding a blow or recovering from a stagger faster than Mellarius can re-ready themself, they may be able to even the playing field. Once Mellarius shifts into full fight mode, they are almost completely incapable of shifting back into a sleeper style, as they will have completely exhausted all special tools, and if they have shape-shifted, will wish to remain in that form for as long as possible so that they may use its full potential rather than shift back and need to build the energy up for another transformation. So if their enemy is able to counter their combat style, it is very difficult for them to switch to a different strategy mid-fight.
EDIT: I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T SAY THIS their Pseudo Dragon's name is Poe! As in Edgar Allan-Poe. He's supposed to be a scribe for Mellarius, but he's a little sh!t and spends most of his time finding ways to amuse himself at Mellarius' expense. He's based on Scribbles from Flight Rising.
