Description

Id, ego, and super-ego are the three parts of the psychic apparatus defined in Sigmun Freud's structural model of the psyche. The three parts are the theoretical constructs in terms of whose activity and interaction our mental life is described.

According to this Freudian model of the psyche, the id is the set of uncoordinated instinctual trends; the super-ego plays the critical and moralizing role; and the ego is the organized, realistic part that mediates between the desires of the id and the super-ego.

The super-ego can stop one from doing certain things that one's id may want to do.

In Nathan's case Id and super-ego can actually become the dominant part of his personality, chaning his behaviour in a very radical way, along with his appearance.

Id Is violent, passionate, and despise ego in a very radical way, calling him the Coward. For the most Id is that part of Nathan's personality that comes to life when Nathan cannot cope anymore with what is going on around him. It's a sort of reactive armour of uncontrolled rage and primal strength driven by the only desire to be free and never be caged again. Unluckly Id does not recognized friends and foe like ego(Nathan) does, he just pave over anything that stand in his way.

Super-Ego has the power of the other two combined, but rarely manifest: Id and Ego(Nathan) are at war with one another and they settle down only when life or death situations actually occures.
