Zyra is another League of Legends character, a mage with plant turrets. She throws seeds around and uses her abilities, which have two effects: damage and making plants sprout from the seeds that assist you in combat.

Zyra is a character I don't much like the design of. I'll admit that plant-lady is a very difficult concept to make original since you can't do that without thinking of Batman's Poison Ivy. But Riot went down a boring route by not working with anything beyond sexy plant lady with cleavage.

I don't have a problem with sexy ladies in videogames as a theory. There are sexy women in real life (who also have a lot of cleavage), and the characters in videogames are always on the sexy side of the spectrum, regardless of gender. There's either sexy or boring (very rarely ugly). But I do have a problem with sexy ladies when not only the sexiness is their main feature, but when all the women that come out have the same basic thing. Sure one's a dark sorceress, another's a pirate, a ninja, demon, plants or a spider, but they're all tall svelte ladies in heals with breasts pouring out of their skimpy, form-fitting outfits. Not to say that everything's bad about Zyra's design, I do quite like how her heels have little red claws in them and how plant-like her legs are.

I know that when they design these characters they're trying to give them an air of power and dignity, and a way to achieve that is with a woman who's not afraid to show her body, especially when you contrast beauty with ruthlessness. But it's not the only way, and it isn't that dignified. Just do a DeviantART search for Zyra and look at some of the fanart she's inspired.

I decided to do a redesign for Zyra that was a bit more interesting for me. So she's a plant that gave herself a human body. She's still pretty because plants and flowers are pretty. She was the most powerful plant in her home, so she's going to be full of herself, maybe she even thinks of herself as a minor plant goddess.

So here we've got a pretty lady with wild rising hair, surrounded by thorns. Her green skin is marked with loops (sensual, remeniscent of plant veins). She's mostly nude, but has a shirt made from pointed leaves (like holly) and her edges are also pointed. She's too good to walk, so she's carried about by a glowing flower (based on triffids and a lotus, specifically the golden lotus that Buddha sits on, making it a perversion of divinity). She reclines confidently on her steed with a flirtatious and daring smile, while floating one of her seeds.
