When my mom and I first made it to the desert the sun was almost hitting the ridge of the mountains. Noticing there were very high clouds i knew we were in for a nice sunset. But i did not expect anything like this! This has to be the most colorful sunset i have ever experienced in my life! The colors were so red it was ridiculous! The sky was literally on fire, it was insane! I was capturing images for about 1 hour once the sun started to put on a show, it was funny cause i kept taking the same images with different colored skies! Started off as a rich yellow then later this. I'm so glad i went to the desert that Sunday! Got to experience this and the Super Moon. Thanks for reading! Thank you for the comments and favorties! Very beautiful! The lighting is perfect, nicely balanced. I would prefer a little bit more 'blacks' or contrast on the mountain part though, but it's not that big deal.

these sunsets really blow anyone's mind--go to the same spot every night if there are clouds about & see that every sunset is different--only the foreground stays the same

The desert, though quite beautiful, is a harsh mistress, and I miss her. You captured the scene perfectly.

Ah, Desert bees are very curious, mostly in an effort to see what the sweat on your skin tastes like. Bees get thristy, too. Purhaps it even LIKED you. Most bees are not aggressive. They do not sing except in self defense or bee war. You are way to big to pose a threat. But you do have salt on your skin that bees really enjoy. You are most welcome, my friend.

Lol haha good to know! But they were yellow jackets following me the whole time trying to shoot! lol got super annoying when they would land on me or buzz in my ear haha! I kept running around in the desert LOL.

Yellowjackets are a bit more aggressive than bees, but they also have no real desire to sting unless they feel threatened. Yellowjackets are always hungry. If you have food or even smell of food, they will come after you. If you swat them away, unlike bees, they can and will attack. Good thing for you that they did not sting you in mass that day. Desert yellowjackets are quite fierce wasps and they can be extremely dangerous since they fight as a group rather than alone. The one chasing you must have been scouting, thus, posed no real danger.

I fear not the flying critters which control pestulant bugs and pollinate the flowers. I am fascinated by them instead. Yes, I have had many stings in the 57 years of my life on this planet, but for the most part, me and the bees get along just fine. They are everywhere in the Smokies.

Skylanth [2013-07-10 05:57:18 +0000 UTC]

Wow, what an amazing sunset! How'd you set this up? ...I'm guessing you used a pretty defuse flash to light up the cholla in the foreground without washing out the rest of the sky?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ExplicitStudios In reply to Skylanth [2013-07-12 14:21:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! You guessed correctly! I kept adjusting how much light output in the foreground and finally got a exposure i liked and hoped it turned out the way i wanted to when i came home! That sky was amazing! Never seen anything like it!
