Actually, nowadays nerds are either neckbeards or straight-A students. You never see people running around with pocket protectors any more.
Edit: Lots of people seem to have misunderstood what I'm trying to say with this comic. I'm not saying nerds can't be attractive. There are plenty of attractive nerds out there, however the people in the bottom picture are just regular scene/hipster/whateveristrendyrightnow kids who aren't nerds at all. I forgot to mention I love creative computer programs. Though I can't figure out flash. 
I also love to write. No joke. All that stuff about science and foreign stuff and mythology? Yeah, I'm using that to my advantage. All that chiz can make for a really awesometastic book. ^-^ And of course I love art, otherwise I wouldn't be here. But I don't think art is necassarily ( spelling? For some reason I can't ever spell that word ) a nerd thing.
Oh, and plenty of scene kids are genuine nerds. It's just that it's hard to sort out the nerds from the posers these days.

I actually consider the bottom to be genuine nerds in most cases. They are just the more artistic version. I myself am a very artistic nerd.
You also gotta consider that not every nerd is a nerd in the same way. I get good grades in school, know random facts, love fantasy, and geek out over cartoons. Others are video game nerds, or the nerd at the top, the original nerd.
But there are, unforetunately, people who claim to be nerds cause its the cool thing to do. Meh. I'll be a nerd even when it isn't cool. No shame, my friends.

The sad, ironic thing is that a good portion of the other commentators on this image are probably guilty of being the posers depicted on the bottom half of the picture, even though they say their "friends" are the culprits.

I know this one girl who wears a shirt with a Pikachu on it every day! One kid in Anime Club wears a backpack that looks like a Pikachu (it even has a tale!), and I know at least three people who wear the big nerd glasses.

Since computers became part of everyday life, the things nerds like have become increasingly mainstream. So when people have one "nerdy interest" and no personality they claim to be nerds.
Playing PokΓ©mon does not make you a nerd, come back once you've spent 5 hours walking back and forth through the same patch of long grass to level up your Cyndaquil.

that is probably because those people who are normal to looking good in high school hardly ever turn out to be someone special once the school days are over. they end up as boring housewives, office jerks of all kinds and - shock horror! - as employees of insurance companies. while the nerdy people become scientist (for example), invent things like the pc and southpark or shoot provocative films. being nerdy has the air of being intellectual, intelligent, promising...
in other words: "strange" is the real cool thing! nothing is worse than nice.
and to say it with bill gates: "be nice to nerds. they will be your bosses one day!"

totally agree.
I would say I am a nerd. But thats not because I want to be different or why ever the fuck those scene/hipster/whateveristrendyrightnow. I actually am. I also don't wear button up shirts or glasses. I say I am because I get good grades, science interests me, Im on the internet way to much, I can fix your computer, code websites, actually love comic books and am obsessed with video games. So it really annoys me when those little ImdiffernetguysOMG people run around say ZOMG IM A NERD#$%^&*(!!
