Terrific artwork, but I think her clothing is not appropriate for a Roman Patrician lady.  She needs heavy (ugly!) make-up and jewelry to be authentic, unless she is naked having just bathed.

I wasn't sure about accuracy so I used creative license to combine greek and roman inspired features.

Thanks very much for your reply.

I really like the picture.  Actually I am glad that it is not too authentic in terms of upper class Roman women wearing lots of make-up, jewelry, and having very elaborate hairstyles.

In reality such women wanted to have light complexions, so they often smeared white lead (toxic!) on their faces and had elaborate hairstyles that had to be supported by metal frames.  A female slave called an ornatrix (root of the English language word ornament) would be dedicated to working on the hair of her upper class mistress and any daughters.

Sometimes Patrician ladies wore wigs of blond or chestnut hair.  This hair could have come from slave women who were regularly sheared like sheep for their non-black hair.

Wow it would've sucked to be a woman during that time with all that beauty effort!

Very nice indeed, but why watermark it?  That makes it useless as desktop wallpaper.

To stop people from stealing it and using it as their own

Thanks very much for getting back to me on this issue.

I understand your concern, but most DA artists do not feel that is necessary.  Copyright law in the USA is sufficiently strict that you could collect damages if someone stole one of your works and sold is as a paperback book cover.  Best Regards.

I have seen it happen to a lot of DA artists with websites like red bubble taking their artwork. I notice they started watermarking their artwork so I decided to do the same.

Sorry to hear about this problem.  Copyright laws are pretty strict - if someone stole your work to use as a paperback book cover you could almost certainly collect significant damages.

Instead of watermarking why do you not simply put your name into one corner of the picture?  The problem with watermarks is that they make artworks useless as monitor screen wallpaper.

Best Regards.
