I could rant for hours about how much I hate doing fanart for popular things. But this was like throwing up. It just kinda happened.

SO YES. It's Sweeney. Not really how I picture him, just how he fits into my style >.> But at the very least, this IS NOT fanart for the movie. No. The musical was so much better. I love Tim Burton and all, and I really don't think he ruined it, it's just pissing me off how there's all these fans for something that's only half as good as what it's supposed to be...

I wrote a big long review for anyone who cares. [link]

So it's really just the fans that are driving me crazy. The movie wasn't bad. It was okay. It made me think about the musical a LOT though, so that's what inspired me to make some fanart.

I actually kinda like this piece. I made all the splattery brushes myself X) I know that the razor isn't exactly right, but I don't feel like fixing it. His hair is how I think it should look - dark, but greying, and despite his efforts to tame it, it still sticks up every direction. His outfit is as close to how I remember it to be in the musical that I saw. (no reference pictures) His hair was more grey though...I just couldn't get it to look right here.

In the background is the Ballad of Sweeney Todd. They cut that out of the movie, the lyrics at least. IT IS THE BEST SONG IN THE WHOLE THING. Lyrics are here: [link]

I'm not a fan of the movie either, but the show is probably the best musical ever written.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this, and not simply because it was refreshing to see a non-Depp Sweeney on deviantArt. I've never seen him this smiley before! It's very surprising but in an endearing and definitely unique way. I also like the subtlety of the pupil difference.

The movie could have been great, but it wasn't. The imagery was there, but nothing else was. I dunno this is burton's most disappointing piece to me.
Anyhow, great image! I dig it

ahh finally, someone who agrees with me. Mmm...well, since Burton got really good and really big, yeah I think Sweeney was his most disappointing film. Beetlejuice wasn't so great in my opinion either, BUT that was when he was first starting. I love everything else he's done. It just drives me crazy how everyone loves it when really it's so full of falts. And everyone just gets pissed off at me when I say I don't like it so much.

I think his favorite actors are pretty good normally, just not here. Don't like Depp as Sweeney, hate Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett...Alan Rickman played Judge Turpin well, but I don't like his voice. Snaaaape...XD

Have you seen the musical? Before you saw the movie? Or you just didn't like it?

And thank you

I had listened to the musical alot, but never got to actually see it. When a movie falls short of pure sound, well that's sad.

I really like the hands. I've been working on hands, and I hope that they will improve. Good job, though!

Fank you X3 I use a reference whenever I draw hands in complicated poses. It helps a lot.

I usually try to look at my own hands, or I'll be like, "Umm... Hey, sister of mine? Could you be a hand model for a sec?" Haha, that's me!

SWEENEYSWEENEYSWEENEY!

This is cuh-reepy, but in a good way. I really like the style you're developing! Love his hand.

I think Johnny Depp was perfect for a movie role, but not for the stage. Hearn just RULED that stage. His portrayal of Sweeney was also much more sorrowful. There was anger and vengeance and whatnot, but you could tell that his past had just crushed him. Johnny was more like, "IMA SLICE YO' JUGULA'!" And then he sliced and sliced and got DOWN with his bad Sweeney self.

Both of them were really good at the "whoo, I'm CRAZY!" part, though. And they both had nutso hair.

But oh, my gosh, I liked Antony SO much better in the play. Yeah, he was all hairy and Raouly, but what was WITH that kid in the movie? He looked like a very pretty woman. Great voice, but...tone down the estrogen.

And Joanna's eyes looked like they were going to roll out of her head.

I did not like Johnny Depp in the movie. Or well...he was okay when I first watched it, but then going back and watching the musical made me like him less. He needs to open his mouth when he sings. He MUMBLES. And really, all he did was be rageful in the movie.

And I didn't like Mrs. Lovett in the movie at all, but I think I've said that already.

XD Antony didn't bother me much, because I have yet to see an Antony that wasn't ridiculous in some way.

Johanna just bothers me regardless of who's playing her...

-shaveshaveshave-

-SLASH!-

-head cracks on ground-

D8 Sweeney could use a good psychiatrist. Or maybe an anger management program.

I like this, though. X3 IS GOOD. I think that is more of what Sweeney would look like. After all, WHO in their right mind would go to someone looking like Depp!Sweeney for a shave? I'd be seriously uncomfortable with someone with that huge of dark circles under their eyes and that much crazy hair shaving me. Seriously.

Well, Sweeney really isn't supposed to be that freaky looking, or that insane XD; He is crazy yes, but I think Johnny Depp went a little nuts (no pun intended) with the part. He ish rageful Sweeney. George Hearn acts him out to be kinda sorrowful as well.

-nods- Even without having seen other Sweeney-ish material, I figured Johnny Depp was a little too cranky. There's a lot of emotional potential in a character like him, and there was LOADS of rage, but not much sorrow. Just like... light sorrow covered up by layers of anger. He could've done better, frankly, even though he's great at all the slashy-slash VENGEANCE! stuff.
