Description
Lately I've been complaining about how hardly anyone understands my artwork unless I explain it to them, and then most of the time they still don't get it. (I know, every artist says that. But it's never bothered me until now) This one in particular, NO ONE SEEMS TO GET. A lot of times I do artwork because the feeling is hard to explain with words. And I don't have a deep meaning for all my pictures, but I do for a lot of them! It just seems like people are only analyzing pictures for the visual appeal and not even thinking about intellectual part.Anyway. My complaint about this picture is that everyone looks at it and goes "Awwww, that's so cute!" and that's it. First of all, I hate drawing cute things (
Okay, so if you can't figure out the meaning for this one, I'll tell you what it means to me. I know I have no experience with the whole 'love' thing, but that doesn't mean that I can't react to how it affects the people around me. Notice the little spike at the top. Like I said, it's easier for me to express myself with artwork rather than words, but for me this is kinda a representation of how a lot of relationships end up. Lifted so high, and then suddenly dropped, hard and painful. But this can have plenty of other meanings too.
If you comment and just say it's cute I'm gonna smack you. (heh, I is a cranky ass right now

I love how you draw kitsune. So cute. If you hadn't pointed out the spike at the top I would have missed it. But I agree relationships can be like that.

It's a fox. Not a fox...person...thing. I try hard not to draw things anime-like. REALLY hard. I guess it does look a little anime-ish, but I was trying to figure out my style for drawing foxes because I hardly ever draw them...and they have to look way different from my wolves so people don't confuse them so much.

Kitsune means fox in Japanese.

still. I'm one of the most least interested in Japanese culture you'll find...mostly because of all the Japanese majors at my school...some of them are really annoying XP Even a lot of the art majors. And I'm just like OMG ANIME OVERDOSE SHUT UP!! I like American and European stuff...nothing else really. Depends on the time period.

well, I meant more like you get lifted higher and higher...only to have the person let you down...they weren't what you thought, or they dump you, or something like that. But I guess death could fit in there as well.

... -evil smile- IT'S CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE! -hides behind Sephiroth-
XD I do like the little spike at the top. It's like... -attempts to interperate- when you're in love or when you've got strong feelings for something it's like you're on air, and floating, but then something happens that brings you back to Planet Earth with a bang. Hence said spike. XD I may be wrong... but that's what I think when I see it. I like the colors on it and everything. -applauds- YEY GOOD JOB. Apologies for the late comment. XD

you're not wrong, that's just how you see it. I'd just like people to come up with interpretations instead of just commenting on how it looks is all XD

Just because someone's cute doesn't mean they're safe either...sorry I made you sad, doesn't the cuteness kinda make it worse? -cough- I least you really understood this, it wasn't my intention to make people sad, but to have them get a sad feeling...if that makes sense. It just seems like hardly anyone is looking past the cuteness. -gives you cookie for being a muffin thinker than most-
I hope you get better soon! Flu's do suck >.<;;

I don't expect people to look at something I draw and just automatically know what it means. I'd just like them to at least try to come up with a meaning (or at least how it makes them feel) because no one seems to do that anymore.

It was more a rant about my other friends, not the ones that are artists. One of my friends looked at it and went "OMG THAT'S SO MEAN!! -covers spike with finger- WHY WOULD YOU DRAW THAT?" And I was like "Um...because...that's the way it IS...it represents something..." I guess I expect too much of my non-artist friends. But still, I'd like at least one person to look at my picture and say something other than "THAT'S SO CUTE!" because that's not the point of the picture.

Don't worry, I understand what you mean about people not understanding. Thats why all my art on Deviantart is crappy. Because the good stuff is meaningful stuff and no one seems to get it. They just take on visual appeal and not understand what inspired you to draw it.

explodingmuffins In reply to star-stuff-18 [2007-02-09 03:46:54 +0000 UTC]
yeah. Visual appeal does help, yes, but that seems to be how everyone judges pictures now...no one uses their brains anymore...-sigh- I don't care if people don't understand my art, I'd just like them to TRY to.
