I got several requests from school today to post this so...here it is. (if you're one of the people from my art class...just skip the whole thing, you already know all of it XD) And if you're not from my art class (most of you) you still don't have to read it, I said a LOT. The explanation is probably the most important part of the discription, so you can read just that (and the last bit at the bottom) if you want.

Assignment: take an item that is really special to you, and create two journal pages in "Dan Elden style" (I don't know if I spelled his name right...XD) as my art teacher calls it. Dan Elden, basically, did all these artistic 'journal' entries will all mixed media and all that, and they look really pretty neat. My teacher is like...OBSESSED with his art, and so she makes us do these journal things. This is my second attempt at the mixed media style. It's REALLY hard to come up with something creative that uses different media types, without going overboard and using TOO many media types and making a huge mess. My first try I'm not posting because it's SCAREH and I never want to look at it again. Anyway, we had to do two pages in mixed media style; one literal page (just stuff that relates to your object) and one symbolic page (what your object means to you/symbolizes/etc) and you had to have a picture of the object on at least one of the pages. The pages had to be IN your sketchbook (not torn out) so I had to stick my big fatass sketchbook on my scanner and the coloring might look a little off at places. I tried to fix the edges in photoshop a bit.

SO THEN. Here is the first page. The literal one. I did have to present/explain this in front of the class, so I guess I might as well explain the pages for you guys too.

Explanation: Well, there's my video ipod in the middle. No, not the real one, although my art teacher did ask if it was a photograph of it. No, I'm just good at cutting out teh shiney paper XD The colorful wave/splash represents all the different kinds of music and all the moods they convey...splashing on/out of/whatever the ipod. I did draw and cut out each of the little musical notes. The screen on the ipod was cut out (with an X-acto knife! BWAHAHA!!...-cough-) and I put a clear plastic 'window' behind, so you can look through and see what's on the next page...the symbolic page. Yeah, it looks WAY THE HELL better in real life. Oh well.

Media: Shiney paper stuff that my art teacher has lots of for the ipod. Black and silver (not that's not foil). Watercolor for the splash/musical notes that I cut out. Pens for the black notes and the Apple symbol. And lastly, clear plastic cover I cut out of one of those boxes...you know, you can get it from ANYTHING. Like the boxes Barbies come in. That stuff. So it is kinda thick. And...that's it for this page.

WHOAS long description. It makes a lot more sense if you're actually in my art class with me, so I had to explain a lot. This page didn't scan as well as the second one did...at all...BUT OH WELL. The only photoshopping I did on it was touching up the dark edges (because my sketchbook is bigger than the scanner, and the edges go over the sides and show up all dark on the computer screen) and adding the signature. Everything else is totally traditional art. I REALLY like this picture!!
