After several years, I'd like to add the following:

If you select the planet outline, create a new layer, and then use a soft brush to paint just outside the selection, you can create a more realistic glare along the edge of the planet. Try creating glare that goes out further to the sides than in the tutorial. It may give you a more desirable effect.
