My father does this EVERY DAMN TIME. He just has the weirdest dumb luck to walk in during the dirtiest part of a movie, or the worst episode of a show. He would have thought I was a complete weirdo growing up if my sisters and mom hadn't been in the room too, with the same deer-in-the-headlights expression.
