Description This is a political self portrait in response to the UK's move toward biometric ID cards for every citizen. [link]

This will NOT fight terror, expose criminals or save the world.
It WILL erode privacy, create criminals and turn people into numbers.

Thankfully it would be an absolute nightmare to impliment and is gonna get shot down by the public, which just happen to still be alive and breathing. For more information see [link]

This piece is not a manipulation. It has been achieved with focussed, projected light through an old analog document pro'.

Been looking at NO2ID all day, lol. I totally agree with you.

This state cannot handle information - it'll lose it, inevitably.

We have enough surveillance (CCTV, phone taps, email usage, internet usage) and databases to last us a lifetime, this is a huge waste of public money and they've already been tried in Britain and failed, around Churchill's time I think it was.

a couple of things:
1) although i'm sure the UK is proper evil and would appreciate you laying the blame for ID cards at its feet, I think that this particular move can be traced back quite easily to our other old friend the good 'ol US of A, and their post 9-11 civil rights crazy spree. (seen b3ta's challenge? [link] it's funny and relevant in places)
2) it might have been easier to recognise as a barcode if you projected it smaller. as it is, it looks more like weird prison bars
it's still a cool picture though. you've got a fantastic expression going on, and, as usual, the way you place projection and shadow on an equal existential footing with solid reality is really funky.

Thanks man

1. Oh man I don't doubt it one bit. I gave up on the USA months ago, but I won't let go of my hope for British liberty any time soon.
2. Yeah, I thought that later too - just a case of not having any idea what the picture looks like until it's too late. Still, the prison-bars thing was absolutely on purpose - ie, locked in a barcode. I try!
