Jasmine had decided the right path was to take the job guarding the trade wagon, so she took the poster and headed to the town square, tracking down the horseman in charge of steering and guiding the wagon on it's route. He was also there to talk to anyone looking for work. "Ah, good!" The thin man responded. "The traders' an' I are heading out tomorrow. Jus' be here tomorrow, an' we'll head out. We also 'ave another guard wit' us, so be on your best,"

"Thank you for the information," Jasmine said to the scrawny man in his sack-like clothes, looking him up and down, seeing the dirt over his body. Deciding to save money Jasmine bought a cheap room at the inn for the night, waking up early to an inn breakfast of biter porridge before heading to meet the wagoners. Sitting on top was a massively obese woman, the size of a smaller duchess, larger even than Jasmine's own mother and any woman in her county they ruled.

Inside she was informed was the woman's husband, who had a sensitivity to light and preferred to sit with the cargo, writing paperwork and preparing for trade. Jasmine wondered what kind of goods were being transported, asking "what am I guarding here?"

Over her fan the fat woman glared, and said, "it isn't your mind to know, simply protect us."

Jasmine was curious, but not wanting to be fired on her first adventurer mission she simply nodded and waited for the other guard. When the guard did show up Jasmine could tell she was to be her coworker right away. The woman sported a pretty face on a massively muscular body with only the first signs of pudginess. Broad shoulders carried a large sword and warpaint rested on her face in place of makeup.

"My name is Jasmine," she said, holding out her hand. The large woman glared at her for a moment and let out a low growl, intimidating Jasmine into making a worried expression.

"Kidding," the woman said, holding out her hand to shake Jasmine's with a firm but supple grip in her gloved hand. "My name is Alexis. It'll be nice to have company, the last few runs I was the only bodyguard for the traders."

    "You've traveled with them before?"

"Yup. Ever since bandits took out the last helper I've been doing this job alone, though. only other fighters we've found on our travels were rangers set on ranging their local woods, not wanting to leave."

"Have you been guarding them for a long time?" Jasmine inquired.

"Five months or so. They pay well, and they don't pry. Husband is a strange one, only comes out at night. Handsome sort, but even scrawnier than the horseboy. All the food goes to the obvious place you'd expect, so don't be expecting god meals. She'll feed us well enough we don't get week or tired, but any extra you need to hunt, fish, or buy off of travelling carts."

"I see," Jasmine said, looking again at the massive woman on the cart.

A few minutes passed before the boy led the horses out. They were going at a walking pace, so rather than ride he just led them. It seemed the wagon wasn't there to speed the journey, only to carry the goods. What could be so valuable to make such profit whiles't only filling a single wagon? Jasmine wondered.

The first few days passed without incident. The meals were basic breads and dried meats, but Alexis caught some rabbit on the third day that the two women shared by a fire. The journey by that point had gotten dull.

I could try to sneak a look in the wagon to see what's in there... I haven't picked a familiar yet, so I could even do that and use it to see. Or I could ask to ride on top, I am a wizard, not a warrior, I don't need to have the exercise and get my dress dirtied. Maybe I should just focus and keep watch, though. Be prepared in case something happens? Or I could try to socialize with these people; I've barely said a word to anyone since we left!

Jasmine looked around, the world seemed calm to her. Green trees sweeping over the road, wagon wheels creaking, hooves trotting. Nothing of consequence, nothing of danger. Just a peaceful walk through the woods. That wagon still bothers me... And I't yet to see the husband, even at night I'm in my tent sleeping so I can cast spells the next day.

Jasmine bit her lip. What to do, what to do...?

I'm with revivedracer209. Too risky to ask to ride up top.

Asking to ride on top is risky. Could get her fired on the spot. I'd go with socializing.

she should keep lookout she shouldn't to go into the wagon if the old man is in there. she should go up top for a better vantage point. yes she should socialize more if she wants the goods. maybe she can steal the fur that the fatter woman was wearing around her neck
